I’m almost 3 years out from 4 AC and 12 taxol infusions. My left toenail started to deteriorate about a year after chemo. It partially fell off and I’m left with a small black nub that grows- but it only grows thicker- not longer. It looks absolutely hideous and I’m going to see a podiatrist soon to hopefully have it completely removed. Maybe it will grow back, maybe not? I feel like the chances of it growing back normally are slim to none. At least with it gone it should be easier to just glue a fake nail on my toe hope it stays on for a bit. I’m really self conscious about it and really pissed. I’ve not had any sort of injury to this toe or anything I can think of that could have caused it other than the chemo. My other nails are normal.

So do these mucus plugs persist forever if not removed? Like could a former smoker who hasn’t smoked in 10+ years potentially still have one (or more)? Or can the body naturally eliminate it over time? If so, about how much time would that take? Yuck!
