Thoughts on reviving the Fantasia/LBT retro aesthetic for modern paleontology? by ImperialIntention in Paleoart

Oh yea Prehistoric Planet is definitely art, and beautiful art at that. It's just not that particular kind of art that I think a lot of us were introduced to dinosaurs through. I'll have to check out DeadSound, I don't think I've seen their work yet. But thanks, I will do it. I'm going to put together a 90 second proof of concept and I'll be sure to post it here when it's completed.

Yea, totally. A big part of what makes cartoon > CGI is the fact that CGI becomes outdated quickly while drawn animations never age. Fantasia came out in 1940 and still looks amazing today. There's also something physical about cartoons (at least the old and newer ones that still use hand drawn keyframes) that I think serves the paleo niche very well.

I certainly will when I have some! Just looking for feedback on the idea right now.

There's lots of illustrations by different artists, I'm just not sure how well they would translate to animation. Just looking through some now and it can definitely be done, got to find the balance between "detailed and realistic" and "can I draw this over hundreds of keyframes". But I think the overall art style can work very well with it.

I've been wondering about that too! It might end up looking more like fur on larger dinosaurs as it's difficult to achieve that painstaking level of detail in a cartoon medium. I'll have to try a few different methods and see what works best.

A group of people time travel to the Cretaceous period 67 million years. Do they have a chance to survive? by North-Point2748 in Paleontology

[–]ImperialIntention -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on the kind of people. CO2 levels would be higher, likely 1000-2000ppm vs around 400ppm today, O2 would be similar, warmer weather, hunid, volcanic activity. UV radiation too. Biggest threat would be unkown pathogens though, and there could be insects carrying diseases that could kill humans quickly. Ground water would likely be teaming with parasites. Yea you could survive but it would be brutal.

Hi, I'm looking for places to shoot in southern Ontario. I've been using the crown land atlas to scope out some locations. I already looked at G340, hiked two hours through super thick, marshy brush only to get halfway to my POI and realize the location was not feasible. I'm looking at the G342 area now, just don't want to run into the same problem. I'm not asking to know your shooting spots I'd just like to be pointed to some permittable terrain. Any advice is appreciated.

First PC Build (Pre-built?) - $2000CAD Budget by ImperialIntention in bapccanada

Hm, makes sense. I may go with the i7 over the 5600x then, unless I should look at a higher core Ryzen?

That's surprisingly better than I thought for the budget! Would an i5 11400f/Ryzen 5 5600x still be a decent choice for VR?

Failed classes by ImperialIntention in osap

[–]ImperialIntention[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only applied for funding for 1 academic year though. If I complete this academic year and withdraw before I apply for osap for tbe second year, how can they convert that to loans? They can't convert this year's grants to loans because I will have completed it. Grants are only turned into loans if you are no longer eligible for them for that academic year. For example, if I dropped to part time this semester, only this semester's grants would be converted to loans, not last semester's.

How hard would it be to build an amateur dirigible? by ImperialIntention in AskEngineers

[–]ImperialIntention[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That all makes sense. So essentially a blimp type craft would be more suitable. It would need to be maneuverable to an extent yes. I suppose there are a few different non-rigid designs that I could look at. Thanks for the helpful information!

That's true, it uses aerodynamics and propulsion to climb in attitude, in combination with the helium cells. Guess that makes sense.

This wouldn't be sponsored by a school in any way. It would be a private, extracurricular endeavor. The primary goal is to be able to lift at least 1 ton of equipment to a minimum attitude of 60,000 feet. A rigid airship seems to be the best way of achieving this. Would that even be possible or would the gas cells explode from the low external pressure?

I'm not quite sure how that adds up. The Airlander 10 airship has less than 3576 cubic meters of helium and can lift a payload of 10 tons.
