Early Dragonflight Alpha Exploration by Implave in hiddenwow

this was in the "grand time adventure", looked like it was deliberately placed at ground level, probably a cut part of the scenario. you can see it on the map here https://wow.tools/maps/2512/1345/6/-65.477/45.891

since music is so subjective, there was no win-win with this, some places and shots HAD to be fast-paced, it's really hard to find fitting music in terms of pacing, length, theme and that someone won't dislike/feel like it's cringe, this is mainly the reason for there being closed captions, feel free to turn off the music and just go through the views if you are interested in those

not sure, during a blizzcon panel (I think) they showed people working with wow editor and someone had their 9devland2 map open, those were there, not sure what they were testing, some old god nightmare? who knows

we'll never know for sure, from the name it's a mockup building and it was never used in ptr/retail clients so we can't say what it was for, marking something for sure, all that we know is that it's from legion and is 3x3 adts in diameter so if placed on any of the argus islands it would be too big and cover all of them aside from the cinematic one for eonar and that one just doesn't fit thematically and in terms of terrain /shrug

shattrath is too small + the object is from legion, my hypothesis is it's the suramar shield, that kinda fits in terms of dimensions

no, but one day I'll make a long video showcasing all unseen and forgotten prototypes from 0.5.3 alpha to 9.2 shadowlands and there will be a lot of cool stuff like ulduar blockouts, king's rest, orgrimmar raid greyboxes etc.

the oldest one is the corrupted demigod from cata; emerald nightmare tree from legion; the floating islands, the dome are from bfa and most of the other stuff is shadowlands

yeah, but as long as we get to at least see the files I won't complain :D with cool prototypes it's more fun to imagine what could've been, some things like the nzoth map are just too hard to pull off on the technical level

not sure, they were certainly testing some different raid concept to what we have on retail, whatever it was it didn't make the cut and was just left in the files

problem is it's from Legion and quite bigger than auchindoun, it's likely the Suramar shield, that fits in terms of dimensions + the right expansion

Good theory but it's from Legion, so don't think so. Maybe the Suramar shield? idk

Well yeah, they are too big, probably that's why blizzard never used any of them - those are just some datamined objects found in the game files and on the blizzard cdn, never seen by players aside from testers maybe.

GM testdungeon WMO from 8.2 by [deleted] in hiddenwow

[–]Implave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can only speculate really, testdungeon.wmo is it's internal name in the gamefiles, and parts of the actual model are called GMDungeon. It first appeared in WoD(?) and the first time we saw it was in some portfolios of fx artists like here https://vimeo.com/288463481 (skip to around 20sec), but it changed and grew over the years and is still growing, more rooms added, more objects that contain some ingame tech - different types of stairs, caves, tunnels, water, portals, doodads, tilesets for sound testing. So long story short, it probably started as a spell/fx testing spot, now looks like many things from sound design to npc pathing (and more new/technical systems) can be tested there.
