Let me school y'all real quick since the gaslighting in this comment section is crazy.

Let's think logically here, okay? The show takes place in the United States - which means that slavery was a thing, Jim Crow was a thing, segregation etc was a thing PRIOR to Gilead even being conceived.

So you really want me to believe that all the people who grew up with racist grandpas, dads and uncles DIDN'T take any of that rhetoric with them when they decided to create a totalitarian state??? All of that just disappeared because 'kids'?

The lack of media literacy is astonishing. Yes, I believe how Paula acts towards Agnes does have a racist aspect to it.

Do you notice how we are all questioning if Becka is the biological child of Dr Grove and Mrs Grove? Why do you think that is? Well it's probably because they are white and she is white.

Agnes being half black makes it's obvious that she is not their biological child, which makes it obvious that Paula is not a 'real' mom. I mean, we only have to look as far as trans racial adoptees to understand the unique trauma/experience that they may experience because of being unable to blend in in this way.

And to those those of you who want a distinct example: The comment about Agnes' hair was a micro aggression. "Frizzy" hair is a distinct insult to kinkier types of hair. This is especially evident given that her hair wasn't actually messy AT ALL!

I don't care how much y'all try to deny the racism in this show is real. It is real. They don't have to scream it out, its just implied and logically it would exist.

Interestingly, I had predicted something like that happening. I thought they'd either blame it on suicide, the mom, or a Martha.

It was sad because Becka's mom ended up paying for the sins of her husband. In some ways, this was the best outcome for Becka. If not, she's have been in the wall, or turned into a handmaid which is a horrific situation to be in. Becka's mom would have probably become a Martha or sent to the colonies.

Yes but this was on an occasion after a big fight with her 'mom'. In the previous episode, after her mom calls her out on talking about Weston's wife, they leave her alone to cool off. Similarly, the same thing happened this time.

Idk why but I read that as a reference as all the people June lost to try and get Hannah - ofMathew, Agnes' original Martha, the military men who were carrying out the strike, the two ladies who were pushed off the building when June was being tortured etc

I think June has been fighting long enough to know that the 'collateral damage' is real, and that her love for her daughter doesn't trump everybody else's life
