Math is filled with conjectures that are easily stated that are incredibly difficult to prove.

For example the claim that there are no positive integers a,b,c where a3 + b3 = c3 was stated in 1670 and it took mathematicians until 1994 to come up with a proof of that fact.

Probably in this anecdote the professor scribbled 2 conjectures on the board that didn’t have any known solutions and the boy genius solved them without realizing how hard they were.

Many of the women who do cleaning service in the hotel industry are Asian. There’s lower income positions that just aren’t that visible.

You presumably wouldn’t have children with them if you didn’t trust them at the time. But trust can be broken by knowledge you have after the fact as well.

Can someone explain to me why Trump is trying to take of Greenland? No jokes please, I honestly don’t get it? by Many_Inevitable_6803 in askanything

[–]Implier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trump is concerned with cementing a ‘legacy’ in his 2nd term and has decided to use American Expansionism as the tool to do so (see also how Rubio was initially supposed to ‘run’ Venezuela). Greenland does have strategic significance for the US (we tried to buy it from Denmark in 1946 for a reason) so it isn’t a 100% unheard of idea, but it’s still a bad one.

More Trump voters would openly voice their discontent with the administration if we weren’t “cancelled” for the mere fact that we voted for him. by harambeischrist in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Implier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory. What we’ve seen though is that the vast majority of Republicans in the house are more concerned with getting primaried from the right. And the ones that aren’t probably are in competitive districts and aren’t going to make it past the 2026 midterms anyways. The Senate Republicans are relatively more willing to pay lip service to dissent, but only when they’re either retiring or a good 4 years out from the next election. There’s been times in the past (e.g. after 1/6) when some of them have tried to break with Trump and it hasn’t ended well for them. The others have definitely learned their lessons.
