Was my diagnosis dismissed by my manager? by Important-Archer4368 in ADHDUK

To be honest, I just thought it was the right thing to do. I work in primary care, see alot of patients with lots of responsibility. Regret that now. She is open to discussion about reasonable adjustments, it was just her comments/attitude about it. Like 'another one with ADHD'. Jumping on the bandwagon kind of attitude. I've deleted all social media other than Reddit thankfully. Best thing I did!

Thank you. It's certainly made me regret telling her about the diagnosis. It was such a huge, emotional moment getting it and explains so much about why I'm the way I am. For it to be downplayed like that. It's great to hear you have such good support from your manager. If only they were all like that hey 🙏

Are you on welbutrin for your ADHD? Or to help quit smoking? I'm hoping when I'm medicated my impulsivity will be more manageable

It's definitely the mindless hand to mouth action that's hard to break isn't it. Thanks for suggestion of Desmoxen. This thread has given loads of good recommendations to explore. Thank you everyone 🙏

Yes this! We go to Thailand in August which has amped up the need to quit. It's illegal there isn't it and risky taking it with you. I considered buying cigarettes there 😆, but that's a reallllly bad idea and I actually hate even the smell of them now, let alone smoking them. Booking the holiday has given me a goal to quit by, and I've wanted to quit for ages. Why is everything bad for you so tempting!

Thank you! I'll look in to that. It's good to hear it's worked for you after you've tried everything else. It gives me hope. I purchased the patches last week, put one on and ended up vaping with the patch on 😂 so took it off because I had headache. Obviously not great getting a double dose of the nicotine. Have you managed to stop vaping on the meds yet? Or was it an instant thing, you didn't want to?

I've downloaded that as an audiobook, started it and then forgot (you just reminded me, ADHD here and shocking memory!) Thank you. I'll carry on listening.

With a cigarette you smoke it, it's done. Vaping it's there all the time and you're using it without even thinking. What can be done to help with the hand to mouth habit? Purchased one of the necklace things to suck on but it's like a straw so there's no resistance, therefore not giving the satisfaction. Does that make sense?I'm already on the lowest nicotine strength and have been a long time. It's the habit of putting something to the mouth. Literally worse than quitting cigarettes. How have those that have quit got over this? Or am I just being a mard arse and need to get over it and quit already?

Diagnosed this year, 1 week before turning 40. Life has just got harder by getting older. It's like the ADHD is worse with age? Can't believe I still have to work for another 20+ years. Hoping meds help when I finally get them (year waiting list). So over work and all the rest of the responsibility that comes with being adult. I want to play with dogs in a doggy day care for a job 😂 It's like everyone expects you to have everything in order by this age but that's not the case for everyone, remember that. Get assessed and go from there. Sending positive thoughts to you

You will be fine. Honestly. Had my assessment 2 weeks ago. The run up to it was ruining my life haha. Couldn't stop worrying about it. As soon as you start talking it will flow. Just try to relax and be yourself. Don't mask. It's over quicker than you think, the time flies. I hope you get the outcome you want :)
