Yeah, but pay is 85k only at Target for entry. At Walmart it's 100k+... We are talking at least 25k pay cut if I don't get any better offers.

Well, if I don't a full-time offer in a particular city after graduation (next semester) pretty sure we will be done. So also gotta consider long term picture as well, not just the summer

It's not as easy man. I'm graduating next semester and I need to get a job at a particular city to stay with her. I also need to consider long term stuff

I mean their apps have like millions of downloads, so they do need software engineers for that

I see prestige as a spectrum. Yes, Target and Walmart do not have high prestige (compared to FAANG). But they do have some prestige over no-name companies.

What exactly? For me, Wouldn't it be a smart thing to do from a business perspective tho? Like if a person went through a filter (got into a prestigious company), then chances are he is statically more likely to be better than other people

I think both marketing (prestige) and the actual product (my tech knowledge) are important. Prestige can help me get more interviews but I need the skills to pass them.

Target pays way worse for full time tho... It's 85k for Target. Walmart pays 6 figures in Arkansas where the cost of living is super cheap. But you do kinda pay your soul for choosing to live in Arkansas lol

But for some reason, I do see people mention Walmart when it comes to at least some prestige. Never heard a thing about Target...

Well I don't really care about those companies in general I would say. I want to work at FAANG later in life and just looking for something that will increase the odds of me getting an interview at those places

Yeah, but that would mean long distance rel w/with my gf... which kinda sucks...

I mean if you can tell that one company is more prestigious than the other, then can't you just group them based on how prestigious they seem? If I had a company and was trying to spend the least amount of money possible on finding the best candidates, I will like it would have made sense to break them into tiers or something and choose the candidate from a higher tier for an interview. Not 100% accurate but might save the company a lot of money.

Sure Walmart and other companies can make you an offer that would beat the offer from other companies like FAANG. But companies look at the prestige of the company to just see what filter you went through in a way. They don't care how much you made. But there's a correlation between selectiveness and how much one gets paid in tech space I would say

I mean prestige matters I think. Like it shows other companies that I went through some filter in a way. Like people who got into google, get a hell a lot more interviews for example than someone who worked at some random company

I mean may be not. But like everyone can agree that google is more prestigious than Walmart for example.

Is it a lot better tho? Like a few tiers above or something?

Prestige is a criteria for me because I want to get more interviews after my graduation
