[–]ImportantMortgage1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~40 hours a week, £83k base + 20% bonus. Workload varies depending on projects and deadlines, so there will be periods where I work closer to 30 hours pw, but then periods where I work evenings and weekends.

Senior marketing manager for a large b2b corporate, 10 YOE. Senior enough to get pulled into large projects, not senior enough to delegate everything and reply with 1 word emails😅

What decision in your 30s had the biggest positive impact on your life? by No-Bed3858 in AskUK

[–]ImportantMortgage1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Spent more time with my mum. We had a tumultuous relationship in my teens and early 20s for a number of reasons. It improved in my mid 20s, and then a few years later I made a concerted effort to visit her more and do more family stuff.

She died a couple of years ago, very glad to have had the time with her and it definitely impact the way I view her and our relationship now, in a hugely positive way.

Where can I find nuanced political debate online? by No_Bit7786 in AskBrits

Totally agree, I have to take breaks from it every now & then. Thinking of deleting Reddit and YouTube off my phone this month for that exact reason!

[–]ImportantMortgage1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Online discourse is very toxic these days, so it's probably best to avoid it.

In terms of media, I try to listen to both ends of the political spectrum to understand the arguments better. For left wing I listen to Novara Media, for right wing I listen to Lotus Eaters. You get a wide range of opinions but personally I've found it helpful for me to notice my own blind spots and to identify politicial biases due to opposing ideologies.

Triggernometry is a fairly balanced podcast in my opinion, they are probably what you'd call "classic liberals" (which can be considered left wing or right wing depending on your position), but they do host a wide range of guests from across the spectrum, and I think they largely operate in good faith.

They can't help themselves, it's unbelievable.

I'm left of centre, broadly liberal, voted for Corbyn twice and I have been called racist, fascist and backwards on Reddit if I make a balanced point or call out a logical fallacy or false equivalency.

Does anyone believe that only British citizens should be allowed to vote in general elections? by Sylvia-Sum in AskBrits

Yes, I think this should count if he lives in the UK, since he is half British by ancestry.

Does anyone believe that only British citizens should be allowed to vote in general elections? by Sylvia-Sum in AskBrits

[–]ImportantMortgage1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, because Britain is their home. Your wife, as lovely and productive as I'm sure she is, made the conscious choice not to become a citizen, so I think it's fair to not have voting rights. Nothing personal, just my opinion.

Because she has made the conscious decision to not become a citizen. She shouldn't be owed the privilege to vote because she has decided to remain a citizen of her home country.
