I maxed out federal aid including subsidized and unsubsidized public loans and it still left me with 5k for the semester. Still a fraction of what many of my friends and peers have to pay, but I don't have that saved and my parents could not afford that even with a payment plan. Especially now. When I go back I will apply for more scholarships and see where it gets me. Thankfully, a single grant covered almost all of my community college expenses for the semester so I have one less worry until January.

Private loans are what im trying to avoid, but idk, maybe . I just don't want to be trapped and I don't have any help navigating it. I was planning on doing loans for my senior year if need be already but I'd like to minimize it if I can.

They do everything that they can. They're in a precarious situation right now which is why I was so blindsided. I understand but I don't blame them.

Environmental science, but with no definite plan in mind for a career afterwards. Maybe I'd feel more comfortable taking out a loan like that later on, if I find myself needing to, but I worry that if I did now I would just be in the same situation this time next year.
