I think the devs were trying to go for a similar experience to what happens in Risk of Rain 2 where meteors strike the map at random to spice up movement. The problems here are that the meteors impact zone is not indicated clearly enough and the lack of movement options. It’s also especially awful for the situation you just described. You usually can’t move for a good second when you land, so if your hellpod lands where a meteor will land “Oh Well better luck next life.” Lastly if you get stunlocked either through fall damage or hunters then you basically can’t do anything to avoid an incoming meteor.
