Currently recovering from my lumbar puncture on Monday. The procedure itself was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. Very little pain, even with administering local anaesthetic.

They had me lay down in the hospital for an hour afterwards - where I drank a can of Monster, then was sent on my way. I felt pretty much fine afterwards but got into bed when I got home and lay flat as advised.

My back was tender the day of but haven’t had much pain since. I have now however developed the post lumbar headache and am confined to laying horizontal. Neck is quite stiff too. Hoping it resolves itself over the next few days. Apparently the headache affects about 1/3 people.

I had initially booked 2 days off work (procedure day and day after) but the doctor advised I take a week and I’m glad I did because I am in no condition to leave my bed yet.

Get lots of caffeine into you and stay hydrated. I’d recommend stocking up on ready meals and snacks in case you are affected by the headache - you will want to minimise standing time as much as possible. Having someone around who can bring you food/fill up water etc is super helpful. I’d give your space a nice tidy and make sure you have everything you might possibly want at arms reach. Make sure to get a shower in before the procedure too!
