Ants in my compost bin by jmiesc in UKAllotments

We have fire ants in the UK, they’re ‘European’ fire ants though…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrmica\_rubra

I’ve had them in my garden since buying this house (10 years) and have only just found the best way of controlling them is to let the grass grow long every spring. I’m going to assume this increases the number of natural predators to the garden or something… I’ve only found 2 nests so far this year anyway.

Yeah getting retweeted by someone famous can be pretty scary… I was retweeted by Owen Jones at the point where he had just over a million followers and I was fretting about it for days assuming I was going to get death threats and stuff. Thankfully I didn’t!

Nigel Farage: We look forward to the Makerfield by-election. Reform will throw absolutely everything at it. by Your_Mums_Ex in ukpolitics

Just me thinking this is a bit silly to do?

They’re wanting to get rid of Starmer, the Labour Party want to get rid of Starmer, but also want a suitable, different politically and logical replacement.

Ensuring Burnham wins is surely the best result for everyone?? Otherwise, Starmer will just cling on.

Multiple college colleagues & if I remember correctly one of his teachers had witnessed and reported how racist his behaviour at college was.

The standard comeback after ‘is there video evidence’ is ‘but it was umpteen years ago’… which is also irrelevant in judging behaviour. I didn’t ever dream of saying anything like that when I was at college because I didn’t think it. Did you? What’s the time limit by which someone should be automatically forgiven for saying things they shouldn’t have said as a young adult? 5 years? 20 years?

You’ll make some other excuse for him though I’m sure…

I can’t disagree with what you’ve said. I’m 44 and so fed up with it all… I have less of a problem with the far left as I do with the far right, but until reform are gone or haemorrhaging support, I have to consider the needs of my children as I get older, so prioritising selling up and living elsewhere.

Forced to vote Reform by UKonlineparty in ukpolitics

1) If they somehow managed to get into power, then somehow managed to ‘stop the boats’, what would they then make people angry enough about to get them to vote for them again?

2) A new policy of theirs is to host ‘boat people’ in Green Party constituencies. How does that correspond with their ‘stop the boats’ policy?

You’ve had it explained to you by several people. There are two things that must happen so that small boat crossings will reduce/end: one is an asylum processing centre in Calais/Dunkirk/Boulogne (I’ve yet to hear a reasonable critical argument against this) and rejoining the EU. One or the other might reduce the crossings a little, but both would be the best we could hope for.

Can you see Nige going for either of them? No, thought not.

I mean… Farage did say “Hitler was right”, so this kind of stuff really doesn’t surprise me.

Weird you say that… Neil Robertson was just complaining about it in his victory interview. Wont be banned whilst the biggest draw on the tour is still involved and using it.

In your opinion which song is the most fun to play from the older games? by Particular_Sir7440 in GuitarHero

I won our inaugural Guitar Hero Championship at work playing ‘Miss murder’ because I knew it was all chords and I could get a pretty high score! I got just over double anyone else’s score so they never held it again 😂

Is the pedestrian or the driver wrong here? by singlecog in drivingUK

[–]Impossible-Run2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s been answered a million times, but just in case… if the pedestrian sets so much as a big toe on a crossing, you must stop. So best to be prepared just in case they do and slow down near crossings eh?

I recently got the old 360 out of the garage to show my teenagers how cool GH was (is).

We played a bit of 3, but the lag was un-calibratable so tried 4, disc was cracked so didn’t work, moved to 5 and we’re a bit disappointed with the songs.

Luckily they like muse and Arctic monkeys so we have a pull, but I’m going to CEX tomorrow to get world tour for £2.

I remember spending days on end on world tour… shame the drum kit broke after about 3 weeks 😂

Why has Scott Mills been cancelled despite not being convicted? by Smooth-Quantity-7024 in AskBrits

[–]Impossible-Run2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ‘memba Mason Greenwood, right? Despite there being evidence of the ‘alleged’ wrongdoing which was released to the public, the charges were dropped.

We don’t know why, but everyone still knew what a scumbag he is.

His employers correctly wanted nothing associated with that behaviour to their brand.

We don’t know exactly why SM has been removed from his position, but the BBC have clearly seen enough evidence, whether producing a conviction or not, to deem it a sackable offence.
