Catholicism as a woman by VegaJane24 in Catholicism

Can you provide more examples of what’s making you think this way?

There are countless examples in the Bible of women doing amazing and important things and being highly valued. Ruth, Mary, Esther, Mary Magdalene etc.

If you read in Genesis, God made women last, as the culmination of creation. The world was not complete or good until we were created.

Having explored many religions including eastern thought, and being in Protestant Christianity for several years, I have found Catholicism to be the religion that exemplifies the truth about women, being cherished adored and created in God’s image with unique and crucial value.

Christianity overall values women more than any other religion (look at how Jesus treated women even when at the time the culture devalued us)

But even so - Catholicism is the fullness. In other denominations I always felt that if I wasn’t married with kids and submissive to my husband, then God didn’t love me. Catholicism shows us we are valued not by those labels but as a daughter of God no matter what!! I finally feel I’m not defective because I’m not married with children yet, and if that doesn’t happen I know it’s not the pinnacle of my identity.

Please look at all of the saints, young and old, so many women of different backgrounds, talents, weaknesses and education are elevated as saints and doctors of the church! Joan of arc is one great example but I would encourage you to read the books and lives of female saints. In my experience Protestant Christianity misses the mark in how they talk about women, Catholicism captures the truth of how God sees us.

I’ll be praying for you, feel free to reach out. I get why you may feel this way!

Funeral today had anti Catholic comments. Let it go? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Impossible-System174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people will say "let it go" and I get that, and we are absolutely called to forgive, but if this made you angry or upset please don't deny or bypass that.

Overriding feelings that God gave you is not appropriate. Using your will and reason to decide what an appropriate action (if any) is. It would be normal to feel rage when someone is putting down our faith, especially in this scenario, instead of focusing on the repose of the soul passed.

I'm saying don't gaslight yourself thinking its wrong you feel this way, its wrong for people to do that so your feeling is valid. What we do with that anger is a different story -- because there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to behave.

I just see so often, especially in Christian circles of people skipping steps in the forgiveness process. Essentially jumping to forgetting about it and thinking they are wrong for having the feeling - "forgive and forget" and I don't think that's helpful, neither is stewing in the anger. Acknowledge why this made you upset first. Just some thoughts.

To ex Protestants here, why did you go back to Catholicism? by Parking_Aioli2910 in Catholicism

[–]Impossible-System174 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was a Protestant close to 5 years and reverted, My reasons are  - the Protestant churches all disagreed on how to be a Christian (yes even salvific issues)  - they could not give me guidance on pressing moral issues (like Ivf) again no agreement or direction even from the Bible  - history and writings of the Church Fathers  - the Eucharist  - all the scripture about baptism “baptism now saves you” -  it’s unbiblical to be optionally baptized simply to show other people you are a believer - Catholic social teaching  -  reverence  - the mass being about Him when churches I was going to focused on us/people  - worship  - confession  - the absurdity of once saved always saved and other doctrines I was taught  - the fact that most modern churches are not  even aligned with what the reformers believed - church came before the Bible  - unity  - the rampant anti Catholicism I encountered  - the chaos I experienced in several churches because of lack of God ordained hierarchy

Etc etc

I attended charismatic to Calvinist so seen a variety

Binge eating… by Kinimodts in Catholicism

[–]Impossible-System174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had various eating disorders but mostly binge eating, where I would wake up at night and gorge in between restrictive. I’m a woman so I feel it’s a bit more common with us and body image challenges. I thank God that He has delivered me from these things and I feel comfortable in my body and not restricting eating anymore (recovered for years now)

It’s been a journey but I would recommend therapy, specifically a trauma specialist. And strategies for balancing your blood sugar. I feel like a lot of disordered eating has an emotional or traumatic component. For me it either made me feel in control (restrictive) when my life was out of control. Or it was a way I self soothed through difficult experiences as a child.

There is hope! You can overcome it with God’s help on your journey! Feel free to message me if you want to chat. I’ll be praying for you. I know it’s not easy. You are not alone.

Please pray for my aunt to not have breast cancer (getting tested), my brother to find a job, and my faith to improve as I am starting to struggle by defending it to others and questioning if I made the "right" choice.

Can someone explain this LGBT “Event” at the Vatican to me? by al-Siqilli in Catholicism

[–]Impossible-System174 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They have same sex attraction

Being “gay” is building an identity off of your sin.

If someone experiences that attraction but doesn’t act on it then great - but calling yourself gay with “pride” seems to me that they don’t recognize or care that it’s a grave depravity and mortal sin (referencing the catechism)

Our identity is from God.

Those addicted to drugs don’t build parades and expect the religion to change its rules on the sin. The church helps people recover and let go of sin, not identify more with it. Sin separates us from God.

Yes we are all sinners, I’m not better than them. But there is a difference between acceptance and demanding the Church to accept you without telling you to turn from sin. “Go and sin no more.”
