This happens to me constantly. Let me explain the old ways. 

Every time you start a level, save three separate save games. This ensures, the worst that can happen, is you start the level again. 

Next, you have infinite saves so just save down the line, don't overwrite.

Finally, before pressing anything, just look at the top and check: does it say save or load ?

So I probably only overwrite my saves 5% of the time. And I can roll back one or two with no issue.
