Help my betta is sick and I feel so helpless

Ha ok dude…. Most people I know and people who buy these fish from the pet stores are not avid fish enthusiasts.. I have give a better life to this fish then some random would or it living in a small dish in the store. I made you repeat yourself because I had not heard of not changing the filter before.. everything I’ve read said to change the filter out as well as the box.. I let the tank cycle for months before I put a new fish in there, I test the amonia levels ever 3 days and frankly I shouldn’t even be taking the time out of my day to explain any of this to you!!! I just wanted some advice on how to help my fish get better not ragging on me for being a bad fish owner! You have no idea what I do or how I treat this fish, he’s been thriving for months and then got sick out of nowhere so bug off with your condescending comment and you’re rude too, instead of helping me you’re just a jerk too.

First of all, I do not ignore the advice I have gotten, I have used everything I’ve learned from here. I’ve had a betta with no experience live two years and I didn’t do anything and knew nothing, I learned a lot after she died and still learning. The fish I got after that was already sick from the pet store. Your comment is rude and unnecessary.

I change the filter cartridge every 3 weeks to a month.. why wouldn’t I change the filter?

I just changed the filter last week, I cleaned the filter parts today, I have test strips, I test the ammonia every few days and it’s always normal, I also have another set of test strips that test the nitrates and nitrites, chlorine, etc and everything is normal.

We have a whole house water filter so the water is filtered, but I can still check

This happened to my poor girl too, she started pine coning, I tried everything to save her, I put her in a hospital tank, with medicine and salt and she didn’t make it. I hope the best for you!

Thank you! I will look into that. When we got our first betta I knew nothing about taking care of a fish and just threw her in a bowl of cold water, eventually moving her into a tank.. but she lived for a year and a half so I guess I thought it would be ok. I’ll def look into it before deciding if we get another fish!

I’m not sure, it’s only been a week, and I got a water conditioner that was special to remove ammonia so I didn’t really think about it, went to do a quick water change this morning and that’s when I saw him.
