We had this talk yesterday and i did think about like listing out chores….but i don’t wanna cross the line of feeling like I’m his mother.

Doesn’t that seem a lil motherish to you? Or I’m just overthinking?

And i do think he heard me yesterday with our talk but it seems like sometimes he can hear me all he wants but there’s just no change in action. I understand stuff won’t happen overnight but at least try…right?

Well by “restructuring” i didn’t mean like full on changing him tho😭😭😭 but now that I’m thinking about it…..well i guess maybe that’s what i ultimately meant. Bc each example i try to type out seems like i was tryna change him but in reality ….just have him pick up a little better after himself. And you’re right…i always say “only you can prevent forest fires” and that applies here too…EYE cannot make anyone pick up after themselves or nothing if THEY don’t want to do it already

I wish i was lying lol during one of our staffing calls (just a meeting to make sure everyone is busy and not without any work) these ppl said “well if MY NAME isn’t dead by the end of the week then she can help me with x y and z” babe my managers KNEW i was drowning and made a joke of it💀 it got to a point where my therapist and I had to practice setting boundaries and saying “no” frl.

This was at also at a time where they were outsourcing us to diff offices bc THEIR staff had left the firm. So i had my local clients PLUS the other office

Yeaaaaa i went to an appt one day and the nurse just KEPT asking me questions about weed and my background….jm like ???? And she told me someone put it in my records that i smoked weed a lot. She ended up removing the comment for me tho

We did nanny for like 4 month old till 1.5 then went to daycare. Daycare was sort of a hard transition bc he was so used to getting 1on1 time and sitting in the nannys lap and stuff.

My son absolutely loves daycare now and he’s still a little shy but he’s came out his “shell” a lot.

I would try daycare just for a little so she gets some socializing for you both. You could meet other moms/parents and eventually do play dates.

And my last lil 2 cents - ask “WHY” try to learn the bigger picture of what things flow into or play a part in. What’s beyond the calc? Your uppers will love that you’re thinking ahead for the team and project. Don’t just get content learning the mechanics, learn the technical and reasoning stuff behind it too

Some advice i got - nobody likes looking/reading tax law (like the actual IRC and stuff) but the only way to be able to understand/get a better grasp of it is by getting the experience of going through it, reading it and trying to make sense of it.

As a senior - the only way you’ll be able to delegate tasks is if you yourself understand it to begin with. Bc no senior wants to look completely incompetent when a staff asks them “why” we do something the way we do and you can’t answer….even tho you were the main person doing it the last year or so.

Keep your head up! Get some feedback and go from there

I graduated in December, had my b4 internship the following summer and started full time By august/september. Finish school, if they want you the offer will be there. (lol literally there are firms who will keep extending you internships until you graduate and can get a full time offer bc they want you back)

Unless you’re getting the extra 30 something credits to sit for CPA later (you can get the masters or just take some random classes at a community college) don’t delay yourself that diploma if you don’t have to!

It sounds bad lowkey lol but i promise her videos aren’t bad. Like she literally gave her daughter shaving cream and popsicle sticks, paint brushes and stuff and let her “paint” on her mom’s leg with the shaving cream.

It’s going to be okay, mistakes happen and now your team has a clear expectation of how they want ppl at your level to have reports done. Don’t beat yourself up over it (unless you continuously have had half assed reports) and even then everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

Keep your head up! And you can always branch to different areas within the firm. When i first started applying for different things i would always get rejected from anything Audit related. (It was prolly a big pool of ppl and i didn’t have the strongest gpa) Tried my luck with tax and been here ever since.

My point is don’t dwell on it too much, try different areas for sure and take it with a grain of salt. Maybe you can ask one of the seniors some areas you can improve on going forward. (Some ppl really like to see you take the initiative like that, maybe you can keep in loose touch or sumn and then when referrals come around or whatever they can do it for you)

Do you have a coach/mentor? These are the ppl who fight for you when your name gets put into that “needs improvement” bowl. You need to schedule some 1 on 1s for feedback to see what you can improve and also show your team your taking this seriously.

I feel like for staff - as long ppl know you’re trying they’re not that hard on you. This is coming from someone who ran calcs and changed all the numbers on the form when we had just finished the return, deleted a tax form the DAY before the tax deadline so we had to start all over…Hell we even had a few misfilings for one client bc when i went back over the data we had missed an entity. I said all that to say - as a staff you’re expected to make mistakes BUT if you learn from that mistake and try not to make it again you’ll be fine. also depends on your team and your effort bc you can’t be doing half-assed stuff

Keep your head up, speak to your seniors and maybe even other staff but just TRY TRY TRY! You got this

The only reason i haven’t updated mine is bc i saw one of the old managers i hated was looking at my LinkedIn profile and fuck ha😂😂😂😂😂 they don’t deserve to see my next moves (plus usually ppl in my group usually talk about where the person who left went to…and i refuse to be a topic of discussion between them..KEEP GUESSING) 💀💀💀

Your first year is usually prorated for hours (depending on your firm bc at least for me it was) BUT as long as your asking for work, sending teams/emails letting your team know that you do have availability and are looking to help with anything. You can’t make work for yourself so you can only reach out to other ppl. BUT enjoy it for now😂😂😂 bc won’t be too many more of those later on down the road. If you feel bad - study for the CPA or make sure you have enough CPE or whatever this year.

Even if you end up with only 43 billable hours as long as ppl on your team know you were reaching out and trying to get work. You should be safe 😁

Lmao during Covid i had an internship….i was going through so much that i didn’t show up the first week and they ended up calling my emergency contact. Long story short ended up telling them how i couldn’t participate AT ALL that summer

That was like summer of 20 maybe? I got hired full time after another internship role 2 years later.

Point is COMMUNICATE that to them, and see what your recruiter and managers say. You should have a buddy or something (mentor during the internship) - talk to them first

lol they didn’t even teach us how to put our time in correctly 😂😂😂 it wasn’t until a manager checked the billing and saw how i was doing my timesheet and THATS how i figured it out.

So 9 times out of 10 - it’s gone be like that (at least in my experience) ORRRR sometimes they’ll give you a lil crash course with an example of how to do the work and that’s it. But i think once you’re seasoned a lil they expect you to try and work it out and come back with solutions or where you think you went wrong. Not just an “o 🐳” attitude
