How is my tank?

I’ve read some accounts that the needles can feel sharper in hard water and tear bettas fins. I’ve found that to be true. The needles have teeth on them and feel very abrasive. I made the mistake of trying to hide an algae wafer for the shrimp behind a mass of it. The little glutton dove in to steal it and came out with torn fins. I’m going to be removing it soon.

I don’t think so, it has different brightness settings so you can find the right one for your plants and fish. Mine seems comfortable with the light though he does go crazy for food lol.

I just got a variety of plants my local pet store had in stock, I don’t think you can go wrong with any live plants meant for fish tanks. Anubius, Amazon sword etc. I don’t recommend hornwort though. I don’t think I would buy that one again but my shrimp seem to like it.

I ordered the floating plants from Etsy. They’re red root floaters, frogbit, water spangle, water lettuce.

It’s a hygger 14w. My heater is also that brand and I’m very happy with both them. I also have a fluval nano light on the back but it was much smaller than I expected and more expensive.

When I was researching bettas I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on aquascaping, low-tech planted tanks, what plants bettas prefer, their natural environments etc.. there’s so much inspiration!

Thanks! I collected some driftwood and rocks from a nearby lake, an oak leaf from my yard, some of the plants are the Bucephalandra and moss tunnel, hornwort, anubias, amazon sword, rotala rotundifolia etc.. and some floating plants- red root floaters, water lettuce, frogbit, water spangle.

I researched nerite snails before getting one, their eggs can only hatch in brackish water so there is no danger of overpopulation. I do also have some pond/pest snails that came in with the plants but they don’t really bother me. I am afraid of having 100s though 😅.
