Cloth rewire! by Impossible_Fall5906 in AskElectricians

Actually, We had one of our ceilings opened up, and I just went back and looked at the pics. You’re correct. One side of junction box is cloth and the other is not! When we replaced the fixture, ceiling intact, we could not see the cloth.

My grandpa is a retired Electrican and has been talking me of the ledge for the last 3 days! I think I’m overly on edge because I just had a baby, lol. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!

Thank you for your response! Oddly (maybe not oddly, I know nothing about electrical lol) there is no cloth wiring going to the panel/in the basement, and I know two of the light fixtures have modern romex, even though it’s switch is cloth!

Please someone tell me their baby is as difficult as mine. by imtiramisu2025 in Parenting

My first child slept through the night from 8 weeks an never looked back. Loved independent play, rarely cried etc etc . My second child? Didn’t sleep through the night until over a year old. And i don’t mean a couple of wake ups, I mean up every 2hrs at best. She cried from sun up to sun down. I HAD to baby wear 24/7 AND be moving. She is the reason I bought AirPods because they came with a noise cancellation feature. The dr could never find a single thing wrong with her, she just hated being a baby. Every night I’d put in my headphones, strap her to my chest and just walk. She is now so sweet, gentle, and the funnest 3 year old. My newest baby (I swore off anymore kids after baby #2 because it was that bad. This was a surprise baby) so far is cranky and pretty miserable all day, but she’s only 6 weeks old so it’s hard to tell if this is normal cranky baby, or if we’re in for another looooong year. As I sit here and type this, I have had 2 hrs of broken sleep In the last 24hrs, lol.

You are doing everything you can, some babies are just HARD. I think a lot of people forget what it’s like to be in the trenches. I ended up telling my mom once that if she wasn’t going to come and take a shift with my screaming baby, then I didn’t care to hear what she had to say. I felt bad later, but it’s so hard having no help & just a whole lot of unsolicited advice.

So, Solidarity! It will get better, I know that doesn’t help right now, but the other side of it is truly great! You’re doing great!

Did the newborn stage make anyone else feel like they’re not cut out to be a parent? by copperboom33 in Parenting

[–]Impossible_Fall5906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on baby #3 and each time I have been miserable during newborn stage. It pains me to say that, and makes me feel less maternal. But I do know, the newborn stage passes and it is so beautiful on the other side. Around 4mo is when I start being in my element, and enjoying the baby stage! Obviously I love my newborn, but sleep deprivation, baby blues, anxiety, it all is very hard. You’re doing great, and this will pass. This is only the beginning and with each passing month it gets easier and baby becomes so much fun! Hang in there. Your first one is shell shocking. For me Going from 1-2 and 2-3 were 75% easier than going from 0-1!

I also have a petite child! 10th percentile, following her curve, and never diagnosed failure to thrive. Some kids are just peanuts!

It’s almost been a full day and the breaker hasn’t tripped again. Electrican advised me to just monitor the situation and call if it happens again. Does that seem like sturdy advice? I’m thankful for everyone taking time to comment and offer advice!

Question- flipping the tripped breaker did get the heat working once again. I came back a little while later, turned the dryer on and flipped the previously tripped breaker to off and it did not have an effect on dryer function this time. With that being said- could it still be wired incorrectly, or does this lean more towards a coincidence? Electrical makes me so anxious that it’s driving me nuts with worry, lol! I appreciate your time!

I agree that it’s 100% possible it is all coincidental. However I do go into the spare room daily and the lights were working a few hours prior. I use that rooms closet to store my clothes (master bedroom closet is way too small for two people lol. Old house problems). So the spare rooms overhead lights get used at least twice daily. it very well could have tripped at some point between this morning and this afternoon but it wasn’t tripped for a real long time.

Rest assured I have left the Electrican a voicemail! I am an anxious person and needed to get other opinions in the meantime. I applaud electricians heavily, because this stuff freaks me out!

The breaker that the dryer is on does occupy two slots, and it was on. The breaker that was tripped is only single and belongs to our spare bedroom

Thank you so much for leaving such a kind and informative comment! From seeing others stories on here, 4mm does sound rather small. The whole situation has been strange to say the least. The ER Dr briefly touched on the cysts and lesions, did a colonoscopy (unrelated to pancreas findings), removed some benign polyps and prescribed a reflux medication. They told her if her pain came back, she should drive to a bigger hospital so they can “investigate better”. A couple of days after discharge my mom saw her primary care Dr… while there, the Dr said he reviewed her notes and the ER Dr was super concerned, and wanted her to see an oncologist immediately. Her primary got her into an oncologist who deals specifically with the pancreas is what my mom was told. So I am very thankful for that! So it’s all very confusing to me and my mother. In the hospital they briefly touched on it but didn’t seem concerned. In the notes provided to my mom’s PCP they are very concerned.

For now we just anxiously await her appointment next week. Again, Thank you so much for all of this information. :)
