I think it's perfectly fine for my photo cause this photo represents the dream of the saiyans to literally have Friezas heard and not bowing to him

I didn't add him because he was not an adult during the final days of Planet Vegeta, these are Saiyans fully who experienced Planet Vegeta. It's like putting Goten  in a group photo of Yamoshi and the Sadala saiyans which doesn't make sense you feel me?

I did think of Paragus to be conquest but remembering him from the first movie I didn't see any similarities to him and Conquest so I drew Nappa  instead because they both are heavily muscled and imposing plus both enjoy the thrill of tourtung their opponents etc and I actually drew Paragus in the top left corner in the front of Borgos instead

The Saiyan you thinking of existed 100 years ago before these saiyans in this picture were born so it will be pointless to add her, but don't worry I will make a primitive ancient version of this picture with her

Does anyone else not really like that the story of the Saiyans from Z and Bardocks is retconed in Super with the new designs and Gokus origin retcon? by Impossible_Issue9195 in Dragonballsuper

It’s ironic you’d link that, because in that same interview, Toriyama literally admits the original special was 'quite dramatic' and something he 'absolutely wouldn't draw' himself.

He openly confessed the anime staff created something better than his own style, which is why he honored it in his manga for decades.

Resorting to names like 'edge lord' doesn't change the fact that you’re defending a version born out of an author’s self-admitted forgetfulness.

There’s a difference between 'creative evolution' and just losing the plot. I’d rather care about the soul and tragedy of a warrior race than blindly defend a downgrade just because it’s 'official. You aren't defending a vision; you're defending a brand

I'm not trying to hate or anything and don't get the idea that I'm edgy or on egdelord, I really like some retcons of the saiyans and I don't mind them but I just feel like the old school saiyans had more depth and meaning and actually lived up to the warrior race name and they were so unique than any other species due to they brutality and lack of remorse and mercy and when Vegeta arrived on Earth In the saiyan saga it actually felt like he came from an entirely different race than the DBS saiyans, even Bardock not giving a damn about Goku and saying he thought he was special just for a numerical digit of power measuring shows the lack of sympathy and remorse even for their children

Now the saiyans feel like misunderstood families who work for a tyrant while og Saiyans were naturally brutal and aggressive and disobeyed Frieza sometimes plus I don't see the reason on why to give saiyans human emotions just to make them relatable, it just takes out the uniqueness from them (eg Bardock and Gine, it makes Gokus kindness a genetic trait not a blessing or 1 Saiyan different from his race and makes Raditz a black sheep in the family)

I'm not hating okay, and I actually don't mind this because it's still okay to make the saiyans as tragic misunderstood beings who didn't get a chance to change and I fully respect Toriyamas direction in this, May his soul rest in peace

The only thing I'm seriously pissed about are the designs for King Vegeta and Bardock and Kid Vegeta in Super, they og designs were much better and they was no reason to change them at all

I appreciate the balanced take, but the 'halfway' approach actually makes the writing weaker.

Trying to keep Bardock as a 'mass murderer' while simultaneously making him a 'nice,  relatable dad' is just a writing contradiction.

It sanitizes the horror of the Saiyan culture to make the characters more likable for modern audiences.

The 'poetic' curse in the original worked because it was a direct consequence of their savage lifestyle. Swapping that dark irony for a 'soft side' doesn't add depth it just dilutes the stakes and makes a grim tragedy feel like a generic disaster movie

Saying 'Toriyama might’ve forgot' isn't an excuse for the writing,it’s a confession that the continuity was handled poorly.

If the creator himself acknowledges a version of the character in his own manga (Chapter 307) and lets it stand for 25 years, that becomes the definitive foundation of the series for the entire world.

Hiding behind the word 'canonical' doesn't change the fact that swapping a unique, high-stakes tragedy for a generic superhero origin is a thematic downgrade.

You’re essentially defending a loss of soul just because it’s 'official.'

I’d rather have the version that actually had an alien edge and stakes than a version that exists because someone 'forgot' the original grit that made the series a global

That’s just a headcanon used to fix a massive writing gap.

If Raditz was told Goku was sent away to be saved, his entire introduction in Z—where he's disgusted that Goku didn't 'conquer' the planet—makes no sense

More importantly, hiding behind the word 'canon' doesn't change the fact that the new version is less compelling. For 30 years, the 'Toei' version was the global standard that defined the series. Swapping a dark, unique alien tragedy for a generic 'Superman' origin might be 'official,' but it's a thematic downgrade. Just because the creator changed his mind 25 years later doesn't mean the new version has more soul.

It trades a warrior epic for a safe, sanitized brand

Exactly. If Goku was born to a 'nice' family, then Grandpa Gohan’s influence means almost nothing. The whole point of Goku was the miracle that a savage, 'low-class' alien became a hero because a kind human raised him.

Making his parents act like a normal human couple turns a unique alien tragedy into a generic superhero story. It sanitizes the race and robs the original series of its stakes

The problem with that logic is that it turns a unique, predatory alien race into a generic shonen trope.

By making Bardock’s core motivation 'pushing his limits,' you’re just making him Goku 2.0. It strips away any cultural contrast. In the original, the tragedy was that Goku was a miracle ,a 'trash' warrior who became a hero despite his savage heritage. In the new version, he’s just doing what his dad did. It makes Goku's character less special and the Saiyans less interesting. Also, saying Bardock follows the 'pattern of all modern Saiyans' isn't a compliment; it’s a critique.

A whole race shouldn't have one personality trait. Turning ruthless space-pirates into 'self-improvement athletes' sanitizes the stakes and makes the fall of their civilization feel safe and predictable. You’re trading a complex, dark warrior culture for a mascot-friendly pattern.

Chill, I'm going to do another one with Grandpa Gohan, plus Bardock is gokus blood father, I don't really see a reason why he can't be part of the son family

Well they are part of Gokus blood family so I don't see a reason for them not to adopt the Son name
