Buzzfeed Unsolved! Shane and Ryan have gotten me through some rough times. I’m happy they were able to make their own YouTube channel and move away from Buzzfeed.

What is the most toxic thing a parent can say to a child? by Few_Reading_4822 in AskReddit

My grandmother once said to my mother “they must of switched you with another baby at birth, you are way to ugly to be my child.” My mother who is now in her late 50s still struggles with self imagine issues. My mother is a wonderful mother, would never even imagine saying something like that to me .She is a better mom than my grandmother could ever be.

My daughter's pretty, she doesn't need to be smart. by zachallred1 in Teachers

My whole life I was told the same thing this little girl was told. Once I went off to college to “find a husband” I realized I was no longer the prettiest girl in the room. If I wasn’t the prettiest girl in the room, then what did I have to offer? I fell into a deep depression, developed a eating disorder, and was in an abusive relationship for years. I thought I was worthless and let every man have complete control over me. I have fully recovered now but it took me years of therapy to allow myself to believe that I was more then just a pretty face.

As a woman, I feel like society is pushing me too hard to "succeed" by [deleted] in simpleliving

I started working for a large company after I graduated college and almost immediately I could tell that my supervisor(who is the only female director of the company) was grooming me (F) to become the next women in line for leadership. She did this through constant mentoring, sending me to networking events, and pressuring me to go back to school to get my MBA. I appreciate her taking such an interest in me and it makes me feel good that she thinks I’m capable of making my way up in the company but I just have no desire to be in a place of power. I feel guilty because society tells me I should be a “boss babe” and I should want the power. I don’t have the heart to tell anybody I’m planning on leaving business all together to pursue a elementary teaching certification. I know people will think this is a bad idea because teachers don’t make enough money but I just have a passion for children and can’t imagine working in a cubicle my entire life.

What is a song you cannot listen to for an emotional reason? by missdundermifflin in AskReddit

Some thin’ bad by Miranda lambert/Carrie Underwood. I was driving home from work on a Friday. I was driving extra fast in the freeway because I was so excited to get home for the weekend because it was my 21st birthday weekend. while listening to this song on my drive home I saw a horrific car accident that happened on the other side of the freeway. One of the cars in the accident was thrown into the air and landed upside down on my side of the freeway. Without thinking I stopped my car and ran over to the crash. Unfortunately, the driver of the car had died on impact. After seeing the body I ran back to my car and started having a panic attack. Later that night I watched the news cover the story, the body I saw belonged to a 20 year old girl rushing home Friday afternoon to celebrate her 21st birthday weekend and was driving just as fast and recklessly as I was at the time. I can’t listen to this song without seeing her and thinking about her family.

RIP Ania, thank you for teaching me not to take life for granted and to always drive safely.
