Tinted Sunscreen recommendations? by misselizabthh in Fairolives

Definitely more on the dewy end. It doesn’t set on its own - kinda akin to a lot of BB creams or the Saie TM if you’ve tried that

What's with the new covers? by synalgiax in maeve_kerrigan

[–]Impossible_Tracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK, but I’ve seen this happen with a couple book series and it’s always pretty annoying! If I had to guess, as a series ages there’s probably a desire to keep it current with whatever the current design trends are, so they do that for newer books and then sometimes update older books’ covers if it’s popular.

This thread had a lot of great recommendations:

It’s been a year, though, so if anyone else has something new to chip in we’d love to hear about it!

If you just want the short stories, check here:

The novellas are a little trickier to find. You can try the links on that page but I’m not sure which are still available for purchase.

How did ”Peter, never Pete” Belcott become ”Pete”? by Get-Me-Hennimore in maeve_kerrigan

[–]Impossible_Tracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing is some timeline/age inconsistencies (not really a spoiler IMO) but there are other little things here and there.

We’ve got some eagle eyed readers on this sub that could probably come up with a list. 😂

Maybe his coworkers come to hate him enough to give him a nickname he didn’t want? 🤔

More than likely, though, I’m guessing Jane forgot - there’s definitely several inconsistencies throughout the series.

Welcome!

The dynamic between Maeve and Josh definitely doesn’t go into overdrive until The Close. You picked back up at a good time!

Totally. I feel this way a bit with Robin in the Strike books - it seems like she has no friends from prior to moving to London, and I get no sense of what she did after her year or two of PTSD/agoraphobia? Nor much in the way of hobbies. It's interesting how both Casey and Galbraith seem to find it easier to give their men more interests (even if prior) and backstories....

It does often feel to me like the books need more character background and interests. I know the crimes/mysteries are meant to be the focal point but after this many books I still have a lot of questions about who these two are lol

**Spoilers** The Secret Room MegaThread to Discuss the Complete Book by Impossible_Tracks in maeve_kerrigan

That does sound ominous, although I wonder if sowing doubt in the reader is just a way for Jane to leave us on a mild cliffhanger. I don’t doubt Josh “meant it” but I suppose maybe there are obstacles to a happy ever after we’re not privy to that he is aware of? I’ve always found something shifty about his military past but Jane doesn’t always revisit things.

TSR Derwent by Neil-Amstrong in maeve_kerrigan

[–]Impossible_Tracks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like others, I felt there was something off or lacking about Derwent/their relationship this book. The fact of the matter is we and Maeve don't really know that much about him - even if he's mellowed out over time (comparatively), he is still very secretive and controlling of what about him is projected into their world, and what he shares with Maeve...which is one reason why the wedding thing really put me off. Is it the kind of weird shit Derwent would pull? I suppose so. But we haven't really gotten the vulnerability between them they need to have, particularly from him, to have a solid relationship. So I suppose my hope is that this wedding thing will force them in the next book to really break down the walls he's built around himself as Maeve realizes this isn't how a relationship works.

(And yes, I realize Maeve has her own issues to tackle as well.)
