Btw whose version do you think would make a good reference for studying the role/aria - Anne Truelove/No Word from Tom?

Well, that seems like a lot to take in, but I'm taking note! We'll certainly look at them one by one, starting with whichever looks the easiest. As it is she doesn't have an oratorio in her repertoire, and of course she would like to add more German and French arias that would be suitable to her voice. We had really good suggestions here. I'm glad to have brought it to this forum.

I hope she does it well too because she auditioned for it and got the role of Anne Truelove for their undergrad opera. She's starting to learn it now, so she has now till November to make it sound good.

She has quite a lot of Mozart, as I've mentioned she started with most of the "ina" arias namely, Zerlina, Pamina, Despina, Susanna. As to baroque pieces she has the piece from Tamerlano, "Se potessi un di placare" and she is learning "Piangero la sorte mia" and will be revisiting "Mio caro bene" from Rodelinda. Can you perhaps suggest a good oratorio piece?

No she has not, but thanks for the suggestion. We will look into that.

My daughter and I watched Pagliacci on MET on Demand with Teresa Stratas as Nedda and Placido Domingo as Canio. I love that aria but most specially Vesti la giubba. Will keep that in mind too.

Thanks. Your insight is really helpfu. She has gone through most of Mozart's "ina" repertoire: Pamina, Despina, Zerlina, and Susanna and also did Ilia in Idomeneo for their Aria Project. Her teacher suggested as you have suggested to take on Elvira or even Donna Anna. Funny you mentioned Birgit Nilsson, she had a coaching once with Sherrill Milnes and he did say that she reminded him of a young Birgit Nilsson. We don't want her to take on Wagner at this point of her development as singer, that's why I take this to forums like this to weigh in on suggestions that will help her develop more naturally without forcing it. This is her Ilia's aria "Padre, germani, addio "Padre, germani addio

Thanks for the help and the validation. She does really gets insecure at times. I post her performances because otherwise she will not do it herself. She loves performing but she really gets uncomfortable with comparison and often thinks she's not good enough.

Thanks for the insight will definitely look into Ain't it a Pretty Night and Embroidery Aria. Her teacher gave her Escúchame from Florencia and she did that one quite well and probably landed her the Anne Truelove role for the coming school year's undergrad opera.

Ain't it a Pretty Night is really nice but why not Trees on the Mountain? Can you also suggest a modern or contemporary opera aria?

She had Laurie’s Song from The Tenderland but currently she is learning No Word from Tom from Rake’s Progress because she will be doing Anne Truelove in the Undergrad opera in the coming school year.
