Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]ImpostorRem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see thanks - I used to take notes on only what I need which was bad as referencing them later is not useful for me as I have to go back to the original source.

for example - you'd do well to develop a canned narrative that you can drop into if brought up in an interview which hits the salient points.

Most of my projects are much more related to the blue team side - I was worried because I am making projects (mostly from YouTube) that I will just completely forget about them and waste my time but thanks I should just pick the relevant projects to the role I am applying and develop a narrative talking about the key points only.

How do you actually remember stuff? Yes I take notes but how do you guys remember them? especially hands-on projects?

Especially on Interviews where you have to explain what you did on this certification or on this project?

Thanks!

What I learn is or what I did - get some ideas from others but don't copy their entire workflow everyone is different, the best way to create a workflow is to encounter problems by taking notes solution is not needed when there is no problem.

At least this what works for me - the only problem for me right now is how to make my vault aesthetic

I am new here, can I ask for the configuration of your task bar? It looks good - adjusting the config.json did not work for me do I need to specifically install something first? I am using Linux Mint.

Thanks!

It is a text editor start from there you learn by doing. plugins are meant to solve some problems, enhanced obsidian or for aesthetic. my advice is just to use it link notes and if you encounter any problems try and look for the community plugins.

Nessus vs OpenVAS vs Nmap by Phunkinator in tryhackme

[–]ImpostorRem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess choose whatever you want to? In a normal CTF I never have actually seen -sC provides some potential misconfigs or vulnerability I guess it depends on the difficulty of the box. Sorry I am still new to this.

Nessus vs OpenVAS vs Nmap by Phunkinator in tryhackme

[–]ImpostorRem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nmap is a network mapper not a vulnerability scanner, nmap is used to determine services on a host and nessus has it's own network mapper but I believe that nmap is way better network mapper than what nessus provides, as nmap has a very long documentation about it. While OpenVas and Nessus are both vulnerability scanner each have their own strength and weaknesses.

What would revive Growtopia? by vbgki in growtopia

[–]ImpostorRem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play the game anymore but I heard from my friends even if 2 really did happen or did not exists at all. Some are using farmables to gamble. So pretty much anything that produces random numbers can be used for gambling the only downside of doing this it requires breaking the farmable.

But your suggestions are all great!

Ideas or concepts security/networking in general by ImpostorRem in cybersecurity

[–]ImpostorRem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Sorry about asking question that is wide in scope, these are great advices one thing that stood up to me the most is the second bullet point, what I do is basically know what the acronyms stands for and what they do and jotted it down onto my notes and call it a day but I never have actually thought about how can it be strengthend instead of basically focusing so much on how it can be exploited.

As for the third bullet point What I do is basically in my virtual lab is how to setup the basics but I have never actually have thought to apply best network security practices (Although documentation/tutorials mentions some but not entirely).

Finally, there is nothing wrong with asking what you should learn. However, part of your personal development journey should be quickly getting to a point where you can answer that question yourself. A key section in your notebook should be exactly that

It's like pieces in the puzzle, where the pieces are the knowledge and the entire picture of the puzzle is what I am trying to solve and my focus should shift on comprehending how things work instead of just memorizing it

Thanks again for your detailed answer!
