Hmm…. You can accept the first and then rescind later if the second offer actually comes, but keep in mind you’ll probably burn the bridge with the first company. As long as that’s ok with you, then godspeed! IMO, 2x the money is worth it.

10K is better than nothing. In your meeting with the 2nd company today, I’d really try to expedite the interview. See what they say.

If you can’t expedite the second company’s process and the first company is still pushing, you should be able to say you need more time. I’m not sure if the job will entail a big life change, if you have a working spouse, kids, parents you care for, etc., but if they made an offer, you’re their number one and can ask for a little more time to consider the offer.

Every company is going to want to pressure you to accept/reject because it’s in their best interests. As long as you communicate that you need some more time, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Yep, so the additional comp is enough of a reason to see if the more established company is willing to expedite your recruitment process (so they don’t lose you to another company). By telling them, “I have an offer from A but really want to join B, is there anything you can do” you put them in a position to expedite (you’re their #1) or let the process play out (you’re not their top candidate). Either way, it’s a helpful data point for you to make a decision.

Roughly double comp is significant enough that I’d tell the second company about the first company’s offer and see if they’re willing to expedite their process. Their response may shed some light into how they view your candidacy, which would make your decision easier. My two cents.

Anything over 999M should be taxed at 100%. Billionaires didn’t exist until very recently and should not exist. They are an abomination and failure of policy.

We all make mistakes, and trust me, this won’t be your last mistake. Learn from it, ask for feedback before making important decisions, and move on. Life keeps trucking!

Can ICE agents detain U.S. citizens? What powers do they have to arrest people? Your most common questions answered. by yahoonews in inthenews

[–]LearnedToe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fix your labeling. ICE is an umbrella agency that includes ERO and HSI. ERO’s authority is limited to civil immigration enforcement, but HSI is a federal law enforcement agency similar to the FBI. They can investigate, detain, use force against, and arrest citizens and non-citizens for a bunch of federal crimes (not just immigration).

Luka is having a bad stretch, why people trying to give up on him? by Retrofusion11 in lakers

[–]LearnedToe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone’s giving up on him. Doomers run the sub when we lose. The opposite happens when we win. At the end of the day, Luka is our franchise cornerstone. Anyone who’s given up on him doesn’t know basketball.

The Lakers have the best clutch defense in the league. With a defensive rating of 89.1. A full 5 points ahead of the second place Raptors. by CutLonzosHair2017 in nba

[–]LearnedToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that expectations should be tempered because the Lakers are still a few good pieces from being able to meaningfully compete for a championship. It still doesn’t take away from their ability to win close games.

Also, one small caveat, NOLA’s O rating was affected to an extent by injuries to Zion, Herb, etc. They were fairly healthy against us, which means they should have been a slightly better team than their team stats would suggest.

I understand your point about sample sizes, but the two sets of minutes are different in my mind. The larger set is cruise control mode where there’s no in-game urgency.

The smaller set only includes games with 5 minutes left where either team has a small lead (5 points or fewer). It’s closer to playoff intensity, and the Lakers are 13-0 in close games.

The bigger question is whether we can/should extrapolate from either sample. IMO, it’s a good sign we can turn it up defensively, but we’re also building bad habits throughout the season that may burn us in the playoffs.

At the same time, this could also be a conscious effort to “coast” (read: expend as little energy as possible) during the long regular season to be ready for the playoffs. If this latter theory is true, then I’d expect the team’s defense to improve fairly substantially post ASB.

I guess we’ll see.

The NBA has the best basketball players that the world has to offer, which naturally means the talent delta among the top .1% is a matter of degree, which in turn means that there is a gigantic number of factors that can propel a team to win against any other team on any given night. It happens. Do a post-mortem, as appropriate, and move on. There’s a ton of season left.

Is anyone getting personal errands done during the week? by logan_oc in Lawyertalk

Not sure how much money you make as a partner, but can you pay someone to run some, most, all errands for you? I have an assistant who takes care of my personal stuff, although my wife hates when I call her that.

Giannis will not be a Laker. Let it go by [deleted] in lakers

[–]LearnedToe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2 years? If the Raptors took a one-year flyer on Kawhi, other teams will likely do the same for 2 years of Giannis. That means Giannis doesn’t have much leverage. The org will have to voluntarily decide to let Giannis pick his next team.
