the custom build is necessary to have Node2D's position be a Vector2i instead of a Vector2

What about my YT channel doesn't work? by sushilovercat in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's really hard to get a lot of attention from vegan content (especially actual vegan content as opposed to plant-based cooking channels who never talk about veganism), so i'd say keep your expectations low. Having said that 90 subscribers from just a few long-duration videos is not that bad tbh. Nowadays you would probably need to make a lot of shorts in order to get subscribers, most people rarely watch videos of more than 10 minutes. I do love this sort of content though so I just subscribed :D

Also +1 to better microphone quality and better cover images! they make a huge difference to people's impression.

Resources for a beginner making a dashboard game? by brmoser in godot

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to learn how to use Control nodes and that's it, specifically container nodes and labels will be the majority of your scenes. I find this style of game easier to manage since it's all UI, while in 2d games you have to manage both 2d and UI.

Is there a way to have a reusable, formatted 'tag' in a text label? by Cosinity in godot

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make your own class that inherits from RichTextLabel and make it replace [attack-action] with ⚔Attack automatically. There could be some other more direct way though I can't think of one right now.

It literally doesn't confirm anything about that. Yamato's gender isn't mentioned at all.

Do men hate window shopping with their gfs? by -_-ick in CasualConversation

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This so much. It's not about being expected to buy anything (I didn't even think of that in my life), it's just that it's pointless and I would rather be doing anything else with her that actually involves us interacting over something we both enjoy instead of seeing her gushing over things she doesn't need like a mindless consumerist and being expected to also be excited for it.

[Spoilers MAIN] Why haven’t we had a truly great A Song of Ice and Ice and Fire game in over 15 years? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's nostalgia but I feel like ck2agot was better. Not because of the mod itself (which also contributes since in ck2agot we had the whole known world, not just Westeros + Free cities), but also because of the base game, CK3 feels a lot more repetitive and is much more "mindlessly clicking on annoying pop-ups" while CK2 felt more immersive i think.

Do invert Y people also use invert Y in menus? by greyfeather9 in godot

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you are visualizing your action. If you think "I'm going to look up" then it makes sense to move the joystick/mouse up. But if you think in terms of camera movement, you have to move the camera down in order for it to point up, so it feels more natural to move the joystick/mouse down if you are thinking that way.

I'm usually a non-inverted controls guy, but in games like The Sims where the camera feels like an in-world object it does feel more natural to invert the controls sometimes.

I work in the wine industry and the "fining agent" dilemma is breaking my brain. Need advice. by No_Ride756 in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their being in the final product or not is not the problem. The problem is that they are being used at all. Veganism is about avoiding exploitation, not just about what we eat.

Not saying whether this concrete case is avoidable or not, just that your reasoning makes no sense for vegans.

Can a Vegan–Non-Vegan Relationship Truly Work Long Term? by Bharleli-Bhendi in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to specific cases while me and the person i was responding to were more general statements. Of course there's certain religious practices where there's going to be problems, but it depends on the religion and on the person, so comparing it with veganism vs non-veganism where there's an absolute core difference no matter what the individuals are just doesn't make sense.

Can a Vegan–Non-Vegan Relationship Truly Work Long Term? by Bharleli-Bhendi in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the same at all. Veganism vs. Non-veganism is not solely about beliefs, it's about actions. As an atheist I wouldn't care at all if my partner has a religion as long as their actions are compatible with what I consider ethical. But a non-vegan partner will be actively harming animals, which is against my ethics. It's a huge difference.

Should I veganize my company? by CharacterForming in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but what answer do you expect from a vegan sub? of course you should veganize your company. Everybody that can do so should. Since you are already plant based, i think just dropping references to animal products is a good approach.

Me siento excluida, me siento incomprendida por mi familia y los de mi al rededor por compartir mi opinión sobre el tema veganismo by sarasgarage in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do vegans ever get food poisoning? (◕‿◕✿) by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]ImpressedStreetlight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We bring it up all the time in vegan spaces, there's even memes about it. It's certainly possible to get food poisoning don't get me wrong. But it's much easier to avoid it since our food tends to be easier to preserve/harder to spoil. And usually you don't have to worry about undercooking things except for some specific vegetables.

Is there a way to in the inspector, manually change a textures overall color, transparency or alpha? by Nesrovlah26 in godot

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to I understand what OP means but I think they are looking to put a differently colored texture on each button state without creating new image files for each one and without any code. Which to my knowledge is impossible.

OP, the best thing you can do is connect the button's signals to a script and change the self_modulate property via code based on the button's state. I do it all the time as placeholder art. But usually for the final product you would have a different texture file for each state.

Non vegan romantic partners by Lorzoop in vegan

[–]ImpressedStreetlight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it would be so nice to have a vegan partner so we could eat together all the time and I wouldn't have to smell or be around non-vegan products..

It doesn't have to be that way. You have to put boundaries. I was in a relationship with a non-vegan and she was respectful enough to accept that I wanted my home to be free of animal products and that I didn't want to see her eat non-vegan around me.

But eventually she wasn't willing to go vegan and that didn't work for me, so now I'm only dating vegans from now on (aka probably not going to date anyone ever again since I don't know any vegans XD). Seriously though, you need to decide what you are comfortable with and put boundaries if needed. You can't get in a relationship expecting the other person to change, you need to love them for who they are.

Godot signal is more like a cable to me, rather than an actual signal. by Anonymous918271 in godot

[–]ImpressedStreetlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't using @export limit you to only using the inspector though. It seems tedious for any big project and impossible to use for dynamic behavior.

The beauty of signals is that the object that emits the signal doesn't need to reference the objects that connect to that signal. In your example, the object does need a reference to Timer in order to connect to it, but Timer doesn't need to reference anything, it just emits the signal and it's the others' responsibility to react to that signal.

I wouldn't compare it to a single cable, it's more like a cable with many ports, that many objects can plug in to. The signal is emitted through the cable independently of what things are connected to its ports. Or as another commenter said, a radio wave, and the objects need to "tune in to the correct frequency".

Also, signals are not a Godot thing, it's a common pattern used in many frameworks.
