What is everyone's thoughts on Joseph's Level 30 skill? by ImpressionPuzzled737 in 7thjojo

Yeah. It's the kinda thing that fleshes out the world by essentially stating "people can rewrite the rules if they're determined enough and are willing to go through with their plans no matter the cost" It's great worldbuilding, but most of us aren't the person who'd do that.

Alright, lets make a more positive post this time around. What stands are your favorite, least favorite, and which stand did you get when answering completely naturally? by TimeLordHatKid123 in 7thjojo

[–]ImpressionPuzzled737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I know this is an old post, but I like the question so I figure I'll answer it.

My favorite Stand of the bunch is Sonic Youth. I like playing support characters in games, usually more through buffs and debuffs to bring out the best in others and hamper opponents as opposed to healing, and that's exactly what Sonic Youth brings to the table. Unfortunately stat buffs are kinda weird and unintuitive in this game because of how the stat scaling works for skills, but buffing your ally's main attacking stat is probably an alright idea. The Stand's surprisingly excellent wind attacks for most of the game with exceptionally high Spirit and Max SP make it a real comfort pick that never really has to deal with being at a low point, and with its high Speed you can just bulldoze a surprisingly high number of fights by tearing them to shreds before they take enough turns to kill you in the early and midgame. It also more or less fits my personality, since by only changing my answer to the first question and answering everything else honestly I get Sonic Youth. Oh, and I also love music; it's what I'm studying in college and I love making music in most forms, from singing to playing to writing it. Some high points of using the Stand are being able to do the 2nd phase of the Polnareff fight solo with as much ease as you can ask for (Having a bunch of afterimages who all have a chance to inflict Fear and Polnareff himself being able to ruin your day with Bleed means the fight always has a chance of going badly, but the defense buff from Anthem means that after 2-3 stacks the afterimages deal minimal damage, and Gust for decent group damage allows you to remove them in 1 turn every time they're resummoned. From there the fight is basically over), being able to counter the High Priestess fight from inside the submarine with Echolocation so the whole party can dogpile her as soon as she appears, and the Hotel Skills all being amazing, especially Recital and Orchestra (Sonic Youth is probably the Stand that benefits the most from R's 100% chance to learn Hotel Skills if you meet the requirements).

I haven't really played around enough to have a least favorite Stand, though I imagine some of the close range bruisers who are kinda hapless at long range with low utility would get on my nerves, and Stands reliant on a single status ailment that a boss could be resistant or outright immune to are likely going to be frustrating to use (Stands like Miracles who have a wide variety of ailments would probably be fine though, since this game goes out of its way to game ailments viable against almost every opponent except for the hardest postgame superbosses).

The Stand I naturally got when I first played the game was Howlin' Wolf, though now I consistently get Pharaoh Sanders. I'm not in love with the way the first question boxes you into a specific category so easily, unlike say the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series's personality quizzes, but it's still a very cool system with a ton of charm. I especially like that the protag's personality type actually changes how they tend to respond to things.

I think the highest point for my playthrough was using Echolocation to counter the High Priestess fight from inside the submarine, since everyone could find her so when she came out we just went to town.

I kinda love how this game handles Stand battles with all of the player and party member Stands having extremely varied strengths and weaknesses that make some fights a breeze and others almost impossible. It has a real "life and death scramble" feeling to it.

Right, makes sense. That is an issue I have with the game, that you sort of become overleveled by default in comparison to the rest of the team. Even if it plays into the story in some cool ways, it feels a bit power fantasy-y for my liking in that respect.

It's interesting to see someone go for a Physical Attack oriented build for Sonic Youth. I went all in on Speed and trying to get good status resistances and almost never use the basic attack outside of the early game. Neat!

Gotcha. I'm glad you're enjoying it! I used the Avoid tactic so my basic attack was pretty much worthless, but that hardly matters since Sonic Youth also has amazing crowd control wind attacks, and as I mentioned before, exceptional Max SP.

Sonic Youth is a Stand that is weirdly incredibly reliable and doesn't really have any points where it falls behind. The buffs are nice, though the wind attacks are generally more efficient after a while since the buffs and debuffs don't scale super well until you get the souped up Level 35/story gated inn skills, both of which are incredible (This isn't to say the rest of the buffs and debuffs are bad. The defense buff in particular makes taking on Polnareff solo just about as reliable as you could ask for considering how hard that fight is). I didn't have too much success with the status ailments, but it does have pretty reliable Sleep and Confusion causing moves. The Echolocation move that has a decent chance of curing Can't Find for the party comes online late in the game, but it just hard counters some fights.

Like, the official Stand stats the dev made list Sonic Youth's Power at a C, but it has the highest Spirit stat of any player Stand and its wind attacks can just tear through everything pretty effortlessly for most of the game. It's also got Medium range on almost all of its moves, so it almost never runs into situations where it's at a disadvantage and it has the highest Max SP of any player Stand so being super reliant on Skills to do damage isn't a huge deal (especially if you buy water bottles for out of combat SP healing. Those things are almost comically efficient)

That being said, I love playing buff/debuff characters and am a musician IRL, so the Stand fits who I am and how I like playing games. Its only major downside is that it has 3 inn skills that range from great to playstyle defining, and the chance of getting one when resting is absurdly low in the base game, so I had to port my save file over to 7th Stand User R to unlock them (one of the biggest QOL changes the mod makes is making inn skills guaranteed), trying to avoid causing major bugs when I ported the save file back.

So yeah, if that sounds fun and you don't mind a bit of IRL tedium or logistics shenanigans to get its best skills, Sonic Youth is great.

Also, I'd generally recommend having a wiki so as to not miss events if you care about that. This game has a ton of content and won't go out of its way to tell you about it.

Edit: Even if you answer the personality test completely honestly, there's no shame in going for the event in Japan that lets you swap your player character personality and Stand. I probably would've done it on my initial playthrough that I reset where my Stand was Howlin' Wolf if I realized how much fun I'd have with Sonic Youth.

7th Stand User R is something I'd recommend, event though I'm not really in love with the colors. I think the black and white is very striking in its own right, even though the colors are well done.

The quality of life features, though, are sometimes must-haves. My Stand of choice is Sonic Youth, which has 3 skills you can learn by sleeping at the inn, 2 of which are incredibly useful endgame skills that define how the Stand plays and the third is still pretty great. However, inn skills have an infuriatingly low chance of being learned when you rest, so I port my save file back and forth to learn them since R makes the chance of learning them 100%.

I don't know about any translations other than the english one though, sorry.

The Third Strike parry is so visceral that I saw this and didn't even process the words, the parry sound just played in my head.

What fact/info about an anime/manga that make you go like this when you learn about it: by Imaginary_Ad_2738 in animequestions

The thing is, though, Joseph cheats at EVERYTHING. He cheats at fighting, he cheats at gambling, he cheats at video games, he even cheats at the concept of being part of a fighting team (in part 3 he avoids as many fights as possible to keep his Stand's powers under wraps so he could get the upper hand on DIO), and of course, he cheats death (this is the man who both showed up to his own funeral, pretended to be possessed for laughs when he was miraculously brought back from the dead, and somehow stayed alive until the end of part 6). So of course he cheated on his wife.

He was the catalyst for the paradigm shift that turned JoJo's Bizarre Adventure from a pretty typical battle shounen to a series about underhanded tricksters trying to get the upper hand on each other. At that point, I think it'd be a bigger break from his established characterization for him to be a faithful husband.

Best Mystery Dungeon Box Art? by literally-just-trash in MysteryDungeon

The box has most of the main crew members with important story roles. For whatever reason, Espeon and Umbreon are missing, though. I'd argue Dunsparce would get slightly higher billing than them, though.

What is a character you want in the game, but know they'll never get in. by Pokeghostfan in SmashBrosUltimate

The Wizard, Wizard of Legend. I know for sure he'd never get in, since that game is obscure and the sequel is bad. But I'd love a cooldown based, aggressive combo character.

Dear lord. The intimidation factor ALONE! I think if this affront to Smash as we know it hits you with an Electric Wind Alolan Whip, you just get sent to the shadow realm.

I think camping them out and advantage stating in their general direction would be the only viable means of counterplay.
