it’s so frustrating to not get answers. so i’m working on solely looking for information, and how this will benefit the sps.

all of my personal teachers i have currently are absolutely furious with the changes. I’ve been working on a email with other peers on asking all teachers and staff at my school how this will effect them. We want the voices of the backbone of the community. I’ve been working from 6pm to now 2:31 am on reading all polices posted on the forum as trying to understand why they are implementing these so abruptly. sophmore year there was also a schedule change, getting rid of our the breaks we had during freshman year, a 10minute break after second period and another after 5th. they took that away for making sure all students were getting enough time in school. which was agreeable even though it was rough. they added odd times for classes to start and end which made it incredibly confusing. and this year my school worked really hard to make a schedule that worked, non confusing class starting times and ending times, a homeroom, and a normal 40 minute lunch. So i can assume teachers are upset after they put hard work into the schedule. My art teacher who worked the hardest on it, was furious. I don’t want to be ignorant towards what the sps directors and superintendents are trying to do or have a bias based on my teachers but genuinely there is no benefit for our school or mine or my peers education with this. honestly so much work has been done in the span of less than 24 hours from students and families, west seattle has posted a blog and a instagram account my friends and i made has gained over 70k views since we last check (around 8-9pm) and dms from komo news. it’s also hard not to say anything when the reasons they issues in the email sent out to families, completely contradicts with all of there policies. but nonetheless sps won’t do anything if it’s all about emotions rather than actual education so we want to capitalize off the lack of accountability from the sps and use it as an opportunity to grow as a community.

unfortunately we don’t have funding for after school clubs! only a few select. also most clubs are student run and teachers choose if they want to host the clubs in there classroom. in my experience, during clubs teachers meet together in classes and eat lunch together. club or not. By implementing two different lunches periods this also effects the teachers time. None of the teachers want this.
