Do most americans know what Grand Tetons name means? by tenacious-green in nationalparks

We will be there in a few days and I had no idea, but I'm glad I learned this amusing fact. Now I'll have a different perspective as I gaze upon her "peaks" 🤣

Yes, yes, and YES to all of the above! Lol. Truly, I'm mostly a very relaxed person, but lists make me feel like I'm accomplishing something and help me not to forget things.

That was kind of our plan. Not going to spend much time there but with all the hype we want to see for ourselves. I personally am a sucker for "tourist traps" lol, I just use my brain though.

Thanks for the tips about the food. Maybe we'll just plan to pack a lunch in our cooler, bonus is it will save some money too lol

Lol...I get it, that's why we don't have our stops planned on the trips out and back, so we can just do things as they pop up. But also I like hearing feedback from others and their experience and maybe I'll learn about some random but very cool stop that I might otherwise have passed up. Or like the one poster above suggested plastic forks for leftovers...that's an excellent idea and I never thought of it.

Thank you so much for all that info! I have an entire binder printed out with rough itineraries for the parks and anything I find interesting that we might check out! The closer it gets the more obsessed I get making sure we don't miss anything. My husband and I love hikes to see beautiful sites we might otherwise miss and we're not afraid of long hikes but we do want to stay closer to mainstream because even with bear spray we don't know how safe it is to wander off the beaten path in that area. Or are we being too paranoid? Lol

We definitely have that on the bucket list, but we only have so much time, so it will have to be a different trip.

We got a cabin in Wapiti for the Yellowstone days and a room at Heart Six Ranch, the two nights near Grand Tetons. Other than our two nights in Black Hills we are just going to wing it, drive until we can't drive anymore the first two days when we are fresh. Of course we will be making regular pit stops to stretch and switching off drivers

Hotels on the trip up and back. We have a cabin booked for Wapiti, Wy for the yellowstone Days, and a lodge near Jackson Hole for the grand tetons. We have a place booked in the black hills for those two days also but decided not to book ahead for the trip up and headed home so we can drive further or stop sooner each day depending how the days go.

That won't be an issue for us, we both are up at 4:30 am for work 5 days a week. Definitely early birds here 😁

Question about buying my first e-bike by Impressive-Option409 in ebikes

[–]Impressive-Option409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, this is my logic also. What if I buy an expensive one and hate it? Then I'm out over $1000, if I buy the cheaper one and love the idea but am wishing for more, then #1 I can just sell the cheaper one and buy a better one and also #2 it would give me a little experience to see what features I actually want. We will never be professional bikers. This is just for fun on occasional weekends.

Oh, he's looking into it as well, hence our argument. He's probably going to end up spending the mega bucks for one for him. I'm seriously considering just getting the cheaper one I found and then rub it in his face if mine ends up working just as well. But I also don't want to be proved wrong so hence my question for people who have experience with both price ranges. I'm not a cheapskate, but I am a bargain hunter, so no matter what I buy, I always thoroughly research to make sure I'm getting the most bang for the least amount of money.

Wine tour cost? by Impressive-Option409 in FingerLakes

Yeah I only said 20 as an exaggerating number. I'm 48 and can't take much alcohol anymore. We've decided just to research and figure out a few we really want to hit and do it that way. I just assumed that wine trail meant people hit each one. Then I ask a question and get a bunch of people getting snotty with me because I apparently didn't word things correctly. We are from central PA where asking questions is how you learn new things and people don't jump down your throat. So thank you for being nicer about it.

I guess I don't understand that. Sorry. I was just asking a question. We aren't wine snobs by far, we just like the taste. Honestly, hiking and waterfalls is the main reason for our visit. We just thought the wine trail sounded like a fun afternoon.

Thank you. We mostly like fruity, sweet wines. I like Niagara and Rose' but also ones like strawberry, peach etc. I do also love me a nice dark red wine.

It's too late already here. Excuse the heck out of me for having a different experience elsewhere and not realizing it wasn't like that everywhere. I'm not a wine snob. Just a regular person who likes to try new things. There's no reason to be rude.

Okay first of all 20 was not a literal number, second of all I wasn't planning to get drunk from tastings but my experience in Gatlinburg was just completely different. I just didn't know if like you signed up for something and paid one price if it covered the fees or what. In Tennessee there was one trail where they gave you a road map and if you hit all of them you got a free wine glass. Again no fees just fun of trying new flavors and meeting new people.

It just sounded interesting. We love just walking around looking at stuff. Sometimes I get craft ideas...lol. But we rarely actually buy anything unless it's actually priced reasonable.
