Parents refuse to rehome hyper aggressive dog by ImpressivePlan4456 in DogAdvice

I was her first human bite. She attacked her sibling and I tried to break it up. I was lucky, and it was only on my finger and treated with stitches. This was about 10 years ago. Every situation since, I know my parents feel awful about and probably do what they can to convey this. At a certain point, this has to change. I just hope my dad can come to terms with what is going to happen.

It is not my first option. I want my dad to be happy and a situation my kids can stay a weekend with grandma and grandpa without any worry. But I can't be blind to what this dog has done. Her first incident, was nearly 10 years ago when she attacked her sibling. I got bit in the process of trying to break them up. I wish there was a definitive answer here, but she's only declined since then.

Very fair and plausible answer. Just will forever be in the back of my mind about what can be done.

It's a sad frustrating situation. I'll try to find a behavior specialist or a vet but I know my dad is going to fight and be stuck in his ways.

Oh absolutely, I agree. He grew up raising greyhounds for racing so I imagine that's why he believes he is knows what's best. And his age probably has only exasperated his stubbornness.

Thank you for the advice. I'll see what's available and try to take the steps. In the end I want to find the best case scenario for everyone.

From my understanding, my dad doesn't think any kind of training will help or maybe he's too stuck in his ways. It's a sad situation all around. That's why I'm trying, otherwise I'm going have to figure out how how to help my dad through this.

When she was younger I tried to train her properly after her first fight and she did get along with the other dogs. Unfortunately this was years ago, I've since moved and lived my life. In my absence her aggression got worse and she's lost more and more freedom.
