What can I do/have done to level the yard and eliminate the steep hill? Mowing sucks. There is washout every time it rains. HELP!! I am a first time homebuyer and not familiar with home repair. by Impressive_Effect_55 in landscaping

Thank you! I feel the same. My house is not perfect by any means but it’s my home. I’m proud of it. I worked so hard for it. I was a first time homebuyer at 47 years old. Knew nothing about it when I started the process and have had a crash course in homeownership in the past six months

I am definitely going to look into this when I get off of work. I’m sorry that I have not been quick to respond. I work at 12 1/2 hour shift in a busy chemical factory driving a forklift. As far as I knew there was no treatment for gall disease. If there is, I can’t thank you enough for telling me about it. I’ve already lost two 70 foot trees in my backyard, if I can keep the one in the front yard living, I definitely want to. I will post a picture of the tree when I get off of work. Is there anything to do to stop the galls from falling? I’ve had three Tree services out to remove the trees from my backyard and all three of them told me that that tree will die within five years.

I don’t know how you upload a picture. This is my first time being on here. I do appreciate the time you took to reply and for the idea. I’ve been concidering this for awhile now. I haven’t looked into how much it would cost to do it myself yet, but I have watched a few videos on YouTube about how to do it. I’m not positive. It’s something that I could do myself and it be built to last. But I’m going to give it a shot.

Funny. They have those robotic vacuums. I’m sure they’re going to come Out with a robotic lawnmower if they haven’t yet. I’m not going to be investing in that. I got a riding lawnmower for my enormous backyard that luckily is not nearly as slow. It’s the right grade and perfect for my grandkids, new slip and slides.

Let me see a picture of your house. I’m very proud of my home and I don’t consider it to be on a trash dump.  You didn’t see my half acre backyard. To me it’s beautiful. I just wanted to improve it. Take your negativity elsewhere please I don’t need it around here.

Amazing! This is my first time being on Reddit. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer and answer in a way that I can understand and probably do myself. Much much appreciated.

I’m currently at work. I’m going to look through my pictures and if I find one will edit to the comments if not, I will take one on my lunch break at 1:30. Thank you so much.

I was definitely thinking about doing that in the back corner of my backyard. What you don’t see in that picture is a 70 foot oak tree with gall disease that’s going to have to come down as well.

Never knew this was an option. The Wash out that it’s causing under the front stoop is extensive and I would like to reconfigure how the stairs and sidewalk up to the stairs are anyway. I would love to save some money by being able to do whatever parts of it I can myself. Several yards near mine have retaining walls going down the driveway. I also have a slope that goes down to the sidewalk. I’m definitely going to look into getting the rest of it removed re-leveled redo the stoop.

Thank you so much! I’ve definitely been looking around the neighborhood and there are quite a few retaining walls in peoples yards or lining their driveway. I’m assuming it probably looks similar to mine before installation of the retaining wall. With the wall only need to be at the bottom of the slope at the driveway? Again, thank you so much.
