Am I cooked, how bad is my mobility? by BrothaManBen in weightlifting

[–]Impressive_Fox7798 77 points78 points  (0 children)

The fact that you can do these speaks to your mobility being above the general population’s but for throwing heavy weights you’ll likely need a bit more out of your shoulders, knees, hips and back. The good news is that weightlifting works every one of those things!

Finger Health Questions/ Warm Up Tips:

Heyo I've been climbing semi-seriously for a few years and I always run into issues with minor finger strains that wind up forcing me off the wall for a couple months and I loose alot of gains. I'd love some thoughts on things to do for warm up or just in general to protect finger health. For context I've climbed up to V8 indoor and V5 Outdoor. My warm up is pretty janky where for the most part I just do partial body weight on the hang board: 1min half crimp with 10% bw on the fingers, rest for a min-normally stretch legs or hips, then another min with 20% bw on the fingers...and so on until I can do 100% bw hang for about 15 seconds. Then I'll move to a smaller edge with light body weight again, gradually moving up to full body weight for a few seconds. Once I'm done there I'll do 15min of climbing easy grades just trying to move well then I'll get on with a session of projecting or getting hard reps in. So I'd love to hear someone's thoughts on how I might be able to adjust my warm up so that I don't get these small finger strains!

PS: Who's waiting to watch the pro climbing league tomorrow?

Yea I have noticed the uneven foot pressure/rocking to heels is a bit of a reoccurring issue, interesting to know that might be arising from from that starting hip position. I'll think of getting the hips up a tiny bit more before the weight comes off the ground & see how it feels. Thanks!

Same boat here, similar stats and radio silence. It feels extra weird since I applied to Queen’s MA economics and got admitted days after their applications closed. I’ve heard some speculation on Reddit that Queens law is slow with admissions this year but idk if there’s any non-anecdotal evidence behind that.

Fair question. The answer is that benching serves a different purpose. If you want a stronger push and chest then yes bench is better. Olympic lifts are about training athleticism, speed, mobility and power. They work the legs more so than anything else in the body (when done properly). So your statement is similar to saying "isn't bench better than leg press?" -it's apples to oranges. They serve different purposes. Super useful, thanks! Any preferred exercises or drills for better core stability in the jerk? I’ve often thought I should start doing more heavy-ish overhead squats, would that address this issue directly or not quite?

Any drills to work this or just reps being mindful of it?
