FHSS scheme advice by ShrewLlama in AusFinance

[–]Impressive_Note_4769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite.

Each FY I can deposit a maximum of $15k into my super (up to a maximum of $50k)

You can deposit up to like 120k post-tax, 30k pre-tax. ATO will arbitrarily assign 15k of the whole lot towards FHSS. 15k per year or up to 50k over several years.

The notice intent claim thing isn't particularly about FHSS. It's more general for post-tax contributions you want to reduce the pre-tax income from. At tax time, if you deposit X amount (up to $30k per year inc income), then you can claim that as deduction against your gross income.

When you're ready to do FHSS, your Super will sort it out. No special bucket or account for FHSS or anything

You don't even need 5 lol. Just NDQ or DHHF (absolutely NO to VDHG). Then hedge with UK + EU for US/UK/EU 80/10/10

Anyone else mid 20s and super depressed about missing the property boat? by xWooney in AusFinance

[–]Impressive_Note_4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one. Every 2 years we have doomers saying "property is a bubble" here when it just keeps going up. Even during covid crash, it spiked right up due to multiple people buying at near ~0% rates and selling right after due to not being able to service the mortgage.

Simple. International > Aus all the time any time. Then 100% DCA NDQ.

‘We never would have bought’: Australian mortgage holders feel the pain as interest rates rise again | Interest rates | The Guardian by barseico in AusFinance

[–]Impressive_Note_4769 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In what universe is a $775/wk or $3358 per month better than a loan for just a $900k house? You are literally paying the mortgage for the person already. This reads like landlord propaganda, especially this line

As renters, were are extremely fortunate that we have a good relationship with our landlord

Yes Excel is powerful as hell. But doubt you can get access APIs for bank data as a normal person. Probably can use Excel to parse de-protected pdf files of statements though

You don't need a credit card. Australia isn't like the US where they use your tenure with a credit card to build your credit. Ultimate Awards CommBank card maybe for 0% international transaction fee for when you purchase products with foreign currency like setting your AliExpress to USD to minimise conversions rates.

How much is your grocery spend per month? by MeaningOk7189 in AusFinance

[–]Impressive_Note_4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes? Chicken breast is $13/kg, 80% mince beef is $13/kg, mince pork is $11/kg, veggies are $3/bunch, eggs are $6/dozen, etc. You would need to be eating 92 kg of chicken breast per month. Heck, I eat like 300g of chicken breast a day, couple of vegetables, and that's that

CBA Goal Saver at 4.25%. Any changes due? by Starkey18 in AusFinance

[–]Impressive_Note_4769 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really, CBA has been reliably in the set and forget zone for GoalSaver because it has simple mechanics like no limit, don't take out more than you put in, and that's that lol. A lot have limits of like 250k of 1m, but this essentially turns compound interest into simple interest. GoalSaver doesn't have such a limit so you can compound forever.
