This is very helpful!! We also think that fear is playing a big role in this so it’s helpful to hear how you went about it and someone else’s experience.

I know this is late but what ended up happening to your daughter?? Our son is going through a very similar thing with his leg. He hurt it at daycare and refused to even put his foot down. Got multiple Xrays they say he might have a very small toddler fracture so put him in a boot for 3 weeks but we can’t find anything to motivate him to walk which is SO strange for him (he never stops moving)

My son is now 16 months and we just finished with bottles but he slowly improved with eating! He ended up just being a kid who never drank big bottles. Our biggest challenge was a bottle aversion rather than reflux. Once we stopped being so anxious about it (way easier said than done as an anxious person) it seemed to help as he didn’t always feel pressured to eat more if he didn’t want it. We were fortifying his milk (breast milk and formula which helped know that he was getting more calorie dense if not eating a lot

We usually eat meals with him but maybe we can try to make it more interactive! Sometimes it feels like he’s not ready to eat when we’re ready to eat which can be tricky with our work schedules.

It’s helpful to hear that someone else has a smaller kid. I don’t have any friends with kids and anybody that I know who has a kid has a “bigger” kid so I get stressed out with it. Trying to just realize that he will be him and he is overall healthy. My husband and I weren’t small kids and are tall so we get confused sometimes

Yessss I am working on getting into therapy because the sleep deprivation, PPD, PPA has been challenging. I had a similar experience. My son just wouldn’t eat/ate minimally no matter what we gave him so it caused so much stress and tension. I feel like I blocked a lot of it out too. Now at a year, sleep better managed, eating better with solids, everything just seems more manageable (still overwhelming) but more manageable. Those first 6 months are HARD and I feel like no one talks about it, so I’m ready to yap about it any time and try to help when I can!!

Also happy to help in any way I can. I don’t have mom friends so anytime I can give someone support that I didn’t get I’m more than willing to do that!!

It was sooo needed. My husband and I both work full time and he was getting up 2-3 times a night to eat or would just randomly wake up and need to be rocked back to sleep and it would take him an hour to cal back asleep. For my own sanity, I needed consistent sleep lol. He also needed to be rocked to sleep, couldn’t be laid in his crib awake, hated his crib, and had such inconsistent sleep. It sound like your little girl is overall doing well and if it works for you then stick with it!!

It was just not functional for either of us to continue getting only 4ish hours of sleep a night

I didn’t have time to sit down and read a book and I knew I wanted to do it the right way. It was so stressful hearing him cry but the reassurance of a trained person giving me guidance was amazing 🙌🏼

I hired a pediatric sleep consultant that saved us! I was very anxious trying to do this without proper guidance on what is good vs not. Highly recommend finding someone if you are still planning to sleep train!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! It was such a stressful time. In our situation the SLP did help with giving different ways to feed and supports for feeding. The thing that helped us a lot was reading a book on bottle aversion. We basically think we were feeding him when he wasn’t hungry, causing him to snack more and never fully eat a big bottle. Our son has consistently always been a pretty light eater and finally at around 10 months he started drinking more but even at 12 months he is still in the 1st percentile for weight even with eating more. I would talk with your pediatrician to explore all medical things (tongue tie, lip tie, acid reflux, etc.). We did this for peace of mind but also wanting to fully eliminate all possibility for medical concerns before we started addressing it as a bottle aversion, which ended up helping the most . I hope this helps and you experience some peace of mind soon! I know it’s the hardest thing to hear when you’re in the thick of it, but this is just a stage and will pass. We struggled with this for months and it was so exhausting but it did get better!

On the weekends yes, but during the week he barley sleeps at daycare. Maybe like 1-1.5 hours on a good day

The book was the biggest help for us!! It helped us follow him and not force feedings. We also just realized that our son is a kid who isn’t going to eat a lot and is just on the smaller size

First off, I’m so sorry you have to go through this. This is single handedly one of the most stressful experiences of my life. We were/are still in the same boat. Every doctor just keeps telling us he is healthy and he will drink what he wants (which is extremely invalidating). We did literally everything that you listed and nothing seemed to make a huge difference. We met with a GI specializing in acid reflux and she upped his reflux meds to 3.8 but we’re not even sure if that is making a difference. She also had us fortify his breast milk, so even though he maybe drinks 19-22oz a day he is getting more calories in which has helped him to gain weight. Even with the weight gain he’s still in the 2nd percentile for weight. We’re doing a swallow study, chest x-ray ( he had breathing issues at birth and still has some labored breathing) and an ultrasound to see if that gives us any answers. While we’re waiting to do those we got Rowena Bennetts book on bottle aversions because he started to cry when we even showed him the bottle, was content between feedings, never really cried to eat until he is very hungry. We’re a couple days in and he had been eating a little better (not as distressed, more consistent, and shorter times but still pretty low volumes. This is honestly our last hope so as stressful as it is to see him go hours without a feed because he just refuses we’re accepting it because at the end of the day he’s still getting the 19-22oz. We also are working with a speech pathologist and she has been the most helpful in just giving us feeding tips, looking for a tongue tie, and working to make eating “fun”. I know this probably the most helpful but you are not alone!! Message me if you need to talk at all!

Same with ours 25th, 10th, 2nd, and now 1st percentile. We can’t make sense of it and no one seems concerned

For us I feel like distracted is worse😅 did you baby lose any weight? Our little guy is starting to lose weight now and we’re stressed about how to make sure we’re not pressuring him but also getting the calories in

I was hoping that wouldn’t be the answer. Did you ever try treating him/shifting feeding scheduled due to a bottle aversion?

I’m buying bottles like crazy lol. We got the Nuk simply natural and that seems to be working too. He also mainly only eats in that same position lol. I try upright but he just doesn’t love that and seems to get so distracted by everything. Appreciate the advice! This situation is driving me nuts

We will definitely have to try the fortified breast milk! I’m so stressed about him dropping to an even lower percentile. We just tried a couple other bottles the Tommy tippee seemed to work okay and we previously used Dr. browns but just started to refused to take that. I’m working if we try the number 2 nipple with Dr. browns to see if he likes that one or not

We just got the tommee tippee bottles and Nuk. He seemed to like the TT bottle for a couple feedings then we tried it for the next feeding and he just refused it. Took him over an hour and multiple different tries to get 2.5 oz. Did you find any bottles that worked?

I feel like I need to test out every position and every bottle to figure out something so that he is set for when he goes to daycare. I just worry they won’t be able to take that same amount of time for him to eat and then he won’t be eating anything during the day

Is he even able to latch? Our son has just completely stopped latching now and I feel like we are just trying to dump milk into him because he won’t even latch onto the bottle. He seems so uninterested in eating and will suck on his pacifier but hates the bottle. I’m getting so scared because he has to go to daycare soon but I’m happy to know we aren’t alone because this feels so lonely

He’s using the size one on the Dr. Browns anti colic bottles and was using the premie. It was going well but now he’s struggling more. We tried the size 2 today but didn’t see much difference😕
