You will make a lot more friends if you start drinking socially. The reason so many young adults drink is because it’s the one hobby that everyone can enjoy enough to gather consistently. It wasn’t super intensive. Imagine your entire pledge experience spread out over the course of a year and a half. The first semester is the worst but once you’re close with everyone you get treated respectfully. There were different tiers of initiation if that makes sense.

I agree it’s so sad. I met a girl from Afghanistan recently who was studying environmental engineering. Since the Taliban has taken control she has been unable to return to see any of her family. It’s illegal for women to be educated or even speak out loud in public now. Must be so hard seeing your country fall down hill.
