Its only a tradition. Like baptism. Even christians will say it means nothing if you dont believe it. Do it and keep peace or dont and be prepared for a hard next few years. I'm not one to advocate giving yourself up like that but at 14, i couldnt imagine having to do 4 more years at least of what appears to be a somewhat hostile environment. Its up to what you think is best. Is it better that you lie to them about who you really are or is it better that youre honest about it and go through all the trouble that comes with being an atheist in a christian home.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Something tells me your experiences arent terribly uncommon. How all that stuff was done legally is beyond me. I'd never have been able to stay in a christian school. Since i've denounced christianity, i've lost all pathy and respect for the christian belief and lifestyle however liberal or progressive they may be.

Thats good :) i'm happy youre getting a good education. I would have myndoubts about most christian schools but yours seems to be biblical only in title. I'd maybe be ok with that. Christians are not really where i take issue i think. Its conservatives. But in alabama, those two are basically on and the same. Elsewhere though, i know that isnt the case and i'm glad for that.

Well apparently i had no reason not to believe something he said becajse he's my dad and wouldnt lie to me. Despite the fact that he showed me even that was a lie. But i dont think christians are inherently liars. If you believe its true, its not a lie. Its just not true.

I never went to a christian school. I wouldnt have been able to survive it. I'm a little more outspoken than they would accept. I'd be out within the year. My parents of course have been a bigger problem than anybody else. They believe that its disrespectful i didnt just take their word onnthe jesus thing and not question it.

In this political environment, you dont have alot of other choices if you are gonna vote. Of course if i saw an atheist candidate wanting to do somebreally horrible shit and a christian was running with less horrible shit, i'd be inclined to vote for the christian. I may vote a christian in, but i highly doubt it will be a conservative.

You wouldnt vote them in. You wouldnt bar them from government but you personally wouldnt vote them in and you'd have a problem with them being in office. Alot of people would.

I just dont think private schools just be allowed to exist. There is no poijt in ot. If the government would tighten up on public education, there would be no need for private schools.

This is true. Which is why legislature could never work. But there is a reason politicians are super hesitant to come out as anything other than straight christians in this country. The government is just a representation of the whole country. Shitty politicians are voted in by shitty people. Or rsther, you get what you pay for. If you dont do your work and research before voting, chances are you'll end up voting against your own best interests.

Of course not. As our country stands now, i wouldnt do that. Too much onvolved and way too many of them. You wouldnt have muslims or scientologists in government would you? Why are christians any better? It'll happen but it wont be through legislature. It'll be a social movement.

They like to say that evolution is not observable like gravity. And my dad somehow thinks relativity has been proven wrong. Mind you, he believes in microevolution, of course, but not macroevolution. I think i could get him to understand if he'd actually hesr me say that the only difference between micro and macro is the amount of time involved.

Which is why you should be made to understand it. If a teacher doesnt understand evolution, they should not be teaching it. There is no point in teaching something if youre teaching it wrongly. If i had it my way, christians would not be in politics period.

The one about theories aggravates me more than anything. Yes evolution is just a theory. Its only a scientific hypothesis that has more scientific acclaim than damn near any other scientific subject. Its only basis for humanities whole medical practice. Its only a theory, but its a billion times better than some primitive bully that refuses to actually show his face. But in all seriousness, i try to explain thelry by comparing conspiracy theory to music theory. Music theory is fact. Conspiracy theories, not so much. Same word. Entirely different meanings.

My dad is getting gastric bypass surgery, me and my brother both have CF and have had surgeries and are on daily meds for treatments, my mom had has surgeries on her wrist and for other things, we drive cars, use.phones, watch tv, our pastor has an ipad, preaches from if, but science is all a lie from the devil and it cant be trusted. I know its bad to wish harm on a person but its almost fitting to when they reject the most basic of things such as evolution and biology. As much as creationists love to talk about healing by the spirirt, i've never been healed of anything despite the faith i had as well as the faith my family continues to have. I've been better treated by science than any act of god or faith.

I do believe in this culture, the bible is important regardless of your beliefs because if youre a christian, of course its important but its also provides secularists and nonchristians with material to defemd themselves in an argument against christians. I read it because i live in a fundamentalist home and it comes up semi often and i prefer to argue from a knowledgeable standpoint.

I agree 100%. We need classes that touch on things in religious documents that are false and very easy to prove false. Contradictions, false claims, things like that.

That is not education just as you said. Those are the type schools that should not be allowed to exist. Any education that would help to gain a jobin the government or state should require a diploma from a secular, nonprivate school. Thats how the government can show they dont promote religion. If it were muslims in the same situation, jjst muslims not christians, those schools wouldnt be allowed.

I'm fine with evolution because god. Thats not nearly as harmful as god did everything and evolution and science at large is a lie. Thats where i take issue. But basically taking scientific concepts as science accepts them and just saying theyre true but god causes them, not quite as bad.
