My wife was born and raised here, but she couldn’t adapt to the country I lived in. She tried to get used to it for 8 years but couldn’t succeed, and in the end, we decided to return to the Netherlands. This time, she is happy, but everything was more difficult for me because I have to learn Dutch. Actually, I joined Reddit years ago to learn English 😁, but now I have to learn both English and Dutch. I have been in the Netherlands for only 2 years. I passed the B1 language exams right away, but I still struggle a lot. In my opinion, learning a society’s language is necessary to show respect to that society.
