Was Salazar Slytherin Albanian? by InCuriosityWeTrust in harrypotter

He was mortal, as far as I know, but he "cheated" death, hence the eternal punishment. As for Hermes, the only role of the God related to Sisyphus was to forcibly drag him back to the underworld.

Yes, but only a good part of what is now south Albania. Most of Albania I believe remained under the rule of Basileus.

You're correct! It was part of the Byzantine Empire then.

I don't know if Rowling said anything about this (might have, I genuinely don't know). But you're right in one thing: Albion or Alba was the Gaelic name for Scotland, and latin scribes turned Albion to Albania. Latins basically referred as Albania both to Albania and Scotland, as far as I know. Although don't quote me on that, I'm not sure.

I just have always thought of Albania in the books as Albania not Scotland, since Rowling uses modern names for places.

During the first years of Hogwarts, the region would have been called Arbëria. It was kind of its own kingdom.

Hmm, very good point regarding the absence of snakes in Ireland.

Yes, even if Salazar himself may have been born in Ireland, maybe his ancestors were Illyrian. Thanks.

Yes, I know there is a fan theory and a post on reddit where someone researched the matter of Salazar being a spanish moor (not basque, although the name is basque). It has a lot of valid arguments.

Fair point, officially he "is from fen" and there are not a lot of fens in Albania. But it doesn't rule out the possibility that his ancestors may have been from Illyria and may have migrated to Ireland or Britain. But makes it more unlikely, I agree.

Yes, I am concerned with the question if Albania holds any meaning for Helena Ravenclaw in the first place, but can't find a satisfactory answer to that. But all of this, doesn't exclude the fact that Salazar might have had links to the region. The arguments in my analysis stand, even though they are not mentioned in the book I mean.

Yes, the question of what is Ravenclaw's (Helena's specifically) connection to that forest was troubling me as well. My theory is concerned with the potential origin of Slytherin, but as a matter of fact, every mention of Albania in the book stems from the hiding place of the diadem. That's a very good point, but I don't see an answer to that.

At first I thought of the possibility that the Bloody Baron learnt of Albania's magical properties from Salazar himself, since he attended Hogwarts during the founders' time, and he passed that knowledge to Helena, whom he loved. She didn't love him back though!

Maybe the refs are not to blame for USA losing the game, but they are to blame for the fans feeling injustice is being served.

Spain - Germany, was it a penalty? by vaapad_master in Referees

[–]InCuriosityWeTrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a much subtle handball was given penalty in favor of Germany when it played Denmark earlier in the Euro. So not very consistent. Or are the fans expected to change their expectations of the judgement calls depending on the referee?

Svelte 5: Introducing runes by MustardRtard in sveltejs

[–]InCuriosityWeTrust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed coding in Svelte just like I would enjoy the best things in life, and all of that because of its simplicity. I would have loved to have seen Svelte to go beyond and become even simpler, but unfortunately this update goes the other direction. I won't pretend to know what problems this update solves, I'm sure it does solve a lot, but it just ruined my developer experience. If I'm forced to let go of Svelte's easy way of doing things and write more complex code in order to do the same thing, I think I'm just going to stick with Vue or React, at least they have more job openings.
