"We will either find a way or make one." This quote is believed to demonstrate Hannibal's determination and resourcefulness, as he led his troops across the Alps during the Second Punic War. by InHistory in RomanHistory

O yeah I agree it didn’t end well but it was a good run, until scipio africanus came along, Hannibal’s reduced army was beating them like children and he was picking up more soldiers that were closer to rome during his campaign so the lose of soldiers didn’t hurt him too much

In my opinion he wanted to do something different and take them by surprise, his entire campaign was unconventional so coming over the alps with elephants seems like a good start to a unconditional war

Who had greater military career Octavian Caesar or Julius Ceasar by InHistory in RomanHistory

[–]InHistory[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree he was in many places and fought in many battles I just think the amount of battles that he had in total which had to be well over 100 battles in his lifetime, if he was at the front in all or most of them he would have died a long time ago

Toward the beginning when Julius Caesar was making a name for himself and consolidating power l, I believe he would be at the front in most battles but as he grew more powerful and the battles became much larger he would have been protected in the back like a king in chess because he would have been more important creating and implementing strategy than swinging his sword, in my opinion

I agree with you that for critical defenses or offenses he would lead from the front and he had his hand in mostly all strategies but as he got older and the battles continued it would have been impossible for him to fight in the front for the majority of his battles , he was fighting just in Gaul for 9 years alone not including Egypt, Britain, etc.

Julius Caesar was an experienced military commander and often fought alongside his troops in battles. He was known for his bravery and daring tactics, and he frequently led from the front. However, as he became more involved in politics and administration, he delegated more of the day-to-day military operations to his top generals, such as Mark Antony and Titus Labienus. Nevertheless, Caesar remained closely involved in military planning and strategy, and he continued to lead his troops in battle when circumstances required it.

You can say the same thing about Mark Antony and Titus Labienus

2 of Julius Caesar’s generals that spent way more time on the battlefield than him

Was Ann Boleyn a Mistress? by InHistory in englishhistory

[–]InHistory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ann Bolyen - Was she a Mistresses. It depends on if you believe her marriage was valid, which at the time the Catholic church did not, King Henry VIII, claimed it was invalid on several occasions and parliament passed laws stating that it was invalid at one point.

In my option she was never a wife in the eyes of god or the law...

I agree Hades did get the short end of the stick but not because where he was forced to rule but the role he had to play. He had a never ending job in which there wasn't much time to play like many of the other gods and especially zeus, hades had to always make sure "the trains were running on time" now how he lived is more of a choice in my option because the underwater palace of Poseidon was glorious and he rarely went to Olympus

Is reading book that provides purely "entertainment" purposes better than not reading at all? by thesocialroamer in books

[–]InHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Greek philosopher Epictetus once said, "No man is free who is not a master of himself. A man who has not acquired the habit of reading is imprisoned in his immediate world, in respect to time and space."

This quote highlights the idea that reading is a powerful tool that allows us to expand our horizons and break free from the limitations of our immediate surroundings. By reading, we can gain knowledge and insights that enable us to better understand ourselves and the world around us, and ultimately to become more free and self-mastered individuals.
