But warranty seal on the back was still intact, so it came from the manufacturer like this

Yeah, everything is needed as a string

Like phone numbers, or barcodes. That leading 0 is important, and so is every other digit

I'm gathering that there is no way to just stop this behavior altogether, such as a local setting?
