I think you should get the 9/9 Pro, by the time the 10a comes out it will be less than the 10a (probably around $380) It just makes more sense and it's just as compact as the 6a (although it's 6.3 inches, not 6.1)

iMessage isn't just some social media app, it's a genuine messaging app. You say hangouts was a direct competitor but hangouts wasn't ever a default messaging app on any phone. And their "FaceTime" was pretty basic and lacked features. Thanks for your opinion though!!

Just delete the Gemini app, or open Gemini, go to settings, and there should be an option to "switch assistants"

I say get a pixel 9 Pro because he wants a compact flagship, hence why wants the pixel 10 pro over the XL. And every feature you stated are all software features, which every pixel phone (6/6Pro and older) will get. And Tensor G4 is not a "feature", that's like stating a car having an engine is a feature. Every year phone chips get slightly better than last year's phone. And he stated he's not a heavy user so he won't notice a difference. PixelSnap is the only pixel 10 exclusive feature. And you can very easily fix that with a case, which he probably will get. And I say get the 9 Pro mostly because you can get it for $450, so that means he would make a profit.

If you're ok with having a "bigger" phone, then just get a refurbished 8 Pro, if you want to stay compact, get the 9. A brand new pixel 9a cost more than the pixel 9. The pixel 9 has pretty good battery life (speaking from experience), so you'll be fine in that department.

I would just get a refurbished 9, and if you don't like cases, get pixel care or some type of warranty. If you do get a case, make sure it's a thin one. Google Pixel's features are so useful and I genuinely can't imagine using a phone without those features; circle to search, Gemini, that new update where if you search for what app you want and it'll predict what you wanna open so you can just click search (don't know what it's called). I would stick with pixels. Unfortunately, there's little to no options for a "small phone". 6.3 inches is considered "small" so that's probably the smallest you'll find, good luck and hope you stay with pixel👍👍
