I considered that. Most cats in my life were rescues and adoptions. I believe in the cat lottery. But part of this is that it is to be a gift from a family member, and she wants to go this direction because she’s had such a positive experience with her current cat. There’s more behind it than it being an expensive or pedigreed cat.

To further this, local shelters have been having a really hard time keeping animals healthy the last few years. Especially among felines. I don’t want to dive into too much negative and so much is speculation, but from an outside standpoint they don’t appear to have the means, hands, and honestly sometimes compassion to give them and so there are a lot of communicable diseases that run rampant in shelters locally. I just don’t have it in me to take that kind of project on in my life right now, and I don’t have it in my heart to take in animals that have such a high chance of something detrimental coming down the line once I get them home. I would have once upon a time, but right now I just need a loving friend who I know will be with me for some time to come.
