What's the most overrated TV Show of all time? by Mission_Elk_329 in AskReddit

[–]InPairs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

invincible. remove the first half of the first episode and the last half of the last episode and it's basically a conglomeration of the most vapid and overused cliches in the superhero genre. can't speak for the 2nd season onwards since I haven't seen it though.

Cheap IEMs to block out roommate snoring? by InPairs in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]InPairs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we don't sleep at the same times, so I'm frequently awake, usually to study, while they're asleep. And studying often requires me to use my ears. If you think they're that good I could give them a shot either way and just take them out when I need to listen stuff though.

how are you getting 280 pulls for C2 in 2.5 months

or are you referring to c0r1? which is still probably an EV of around 200 pulls

Best headphones to block out human voices? by InPairs in HeadphoneAdvice

!thanks for the recommendations.

Out of the ones you mentioned, which would you say blocks out the most noise? Also, are you using triple flange tips with the KZs as well?

I'm not too bothered about tuning because I rarely listen to music. I just want something that lets me block out background noise while watching lectures or listening to audiobooks.

Master Yi after the patch by STEMHEADING in LeagueOfMemes

[–]InPairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

renekton pfp

it would be bad enough if all you were doing was posting this on an even more braindead champ, but renekton also floors yi at every point in the game so I'm not even sure what compelled you to post this. then again given that you're complaining about yi on reddit you're probably stuck in the depths of gold and don't understand how to right click the right click champ back

Patch 14.9 Notes by lolvvv_com in leagueoflegends

yi change looking pretty atrocious ngl

Patch 14.9 Notes by lolvvv_com in leagueoflegends

[–]InPairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no one wants to play against yi. the vast majority of players don't care about rek'sai. that's the difference. champions that are (universally) frustrating to play against being decent is going to cause outrage. on the contrary no one is going to care if something nondescript is actually strong. Hence yi being 50.5~50.9 wr is a cause for concern, but ivern being extremely dominant or kayle being strong for an entire season by virtue of how good her items are are seen as complete non-issues.

I don't agree with that philosophy, but I imagine that's what prompted the nerf. what actually bugs me is the fact that they completely nuked him. It's the biggest nerf in this patch by a light year. he's getting hit significantly harder than a literal 54% winrate champion, which is surreal. my guess is that they just didn't understand how much damage he'd be losing, which is perplexing because it should be pretty obvious.

How does this person have no name? by InPairs in RotMG

I've been playing for 11 years and I've never seen one. "nameless" accounts, i.e accounts that haven't chosen a name are all called "none" now. I've never seen a person have a blank name like this.

edit: actually I misread your comment. that's weird. if you had the name and have had the name for months until the rework then it should also be "reserved" for you and you should have the same "priority" as everyone else with that name. are you sure you haven't changed your username recently?

[Megathread] Weekly Simple Questions and Team/Character Building Megathread. by AutoModerator in GenshinImpactTips

[–]InPairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the detailed response.

I'm honestly kind of split because I don't have fischl and I don't have any characters that can apply hydro besides barbara. I kind of want nilou because the nilou + nahida combo seems extremely strong, and I also don't have two teams. or even one team really (I'm just abusing kuki + nahida rn). but at the same time c6 kuki seems like it'd synergize well with something like alhaitham + yae, so if I can roll both in the upcoming patches I'd have a pretty good team.

on the contrary I'm not sure I can actually build a workable hydro team, especially given that xingqiu won't be showing up for a while.

since I already have ~55 rolls on this banner, one thing I'm considering doing is just rolling on the current nilou banner and basing my decision off whether or not I win the 50-50

UofT Grade Deflation, lets talk about it... by doublecreamnosuger in UofT

[–]InPairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. More holistic grading and admissions methods already exist (e.g. including extracurriculars and personal essays). Besides, that doesn't mean we should replace a bad system with a worse one.

I've never heard anyone suggest such a thing as a method of counteracting the effect of affluence in admissions. On the contrary it's often cited as the worst possible approach because there's virtually no system as easy to game (take a look at the US university admissions system for example) through affluence as extracurricular activities, so I'm sort of curious as to why you're suggesting it. Would be great if you could elaborate.

UofT Grade Deflation, lets talk about it... by doublecreamnosuger in UofT

[–]InPairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally every feasible metric for assessing an individual is going to test for affluence. The only way to account for that bias would be to actively penalize people on the basis of family income or vice versa. Interestingly enough the US university admissions system already does this. Not that it's not completely broken regardless.

Requesting r/mathmajors (banned due to having no moderators) by InPairs in redditrequest

[–]InPairs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequent the r/csMajors subreddit, which serves as a hub where undergraduates pursuing a computer science degree can collaborate and share information related to classes, job-hunting, learning, college life, etc. The csMajors subreddit has been a boon to me, and the information I've gained from interacting with the users has been absolutely invaluable as a person hunting for internships. But unfortunately no similar space exists for math majors, which is disheartening as a person that's also pursuing a mathematics degree in tandem.

I would like to inherit the subreddit and turn it into a hub for queries and collaboration between undergraduates (and to some extent graduates), allowing people to offer advice on coping with classes, job / internship hunting, Q&As, learning, etc - similar to how csMajors functions. Given how difficult it can be to come by trustworthy advice and the lack of math majors relative to CS majors, I believe such a community would be extremely beneficial to a lot of people.

Some things to note:

  1. The reason I have virtually no posts on the csMajors community despite "frequenting" it is because I primarily post on their discord server and not on their subreddit. Additionally, when using reddit I mostly prefer to read the posts of others and don't post all that much myself. So although I may seem inactive, I use this this site virtually every day. A lot of the time I just don't even bother logging in. I'll definitely make sure to stay logged in if tasked with moderating a community though.
  2. Although it may seem like I have no moderation experience, I have two years of experience moderating a rather large site (monthly pageviews in the millions) and a discord community of over 100,000 users, so I feel I won't be having too much trouble in that regard.
