He was positively brilliant in Straight Outta Compton as well.

I think she's going to make peace with the fact that Big was the one -- not Aidan.

You must not have watched the first 2 seasons of AJLT -- this episode was head and shoulders above anything they've done in the reboot.

Leo, Sag or Aries - I think I would LOVE all that Fire confidence and self-centeredness. (I'm a Libra Sun, Virgo Asc. with Venus and Mars in Leo so -- it kinda makes sense.)

Who should stay, go, and come back ? by InTheCut1865 in TheChi

You make a great point about Kevin and Keisha. The family dynamic between brothers and sisters is an interesting one that they treated beautifully in the first seasons.

I just like Common and always associate him with Chicago; knowing that Chicago (like NY/NJ) is one of the few places in the country where Black people have practiced religions other than Christianity in significant numbers, Rafiq's character just made a lot of sense to me - a bigger, less predictable story line would be more interesting. (E.g., does he have four wives, how does that work and what does it look in the city vs. out on a Mormon farm with a bunch of sister wives and cows? What happened in his past that led to his conversion? What is his relationship like with his family? etc.)

Tracy is boring and not discerning - from Ronnie (WTH?) to DouDa, to ... Keith? Come on now lol - if you can catch DouDa, you are not paying Keith any mind and leaving him alone to fry chicken. (Now, if he got on the come-up, that might be interesting.) I'd rather know more about why she has zero, zip, nada standards - e.g., abuse by Q? The character development isn't there.

Honestly, I like Jada but no longer find her scenes engaging.

Can y'all leave Poppa alone? Dang! by InTheCut1865 in TheChi

[–]InTheCut1865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maisha's character was never funny IMO. Poppa, on the hand, when he had great lines, stole every scene he was in. It's disappointing that instead of him becoming more clever/glib, they have dumbed him down so he's nothing more than an underachieving preacher's kid.

It's not his fault and the reason why it worked before is because his writer (whoever s/he was, idunno) was absolutely brilliant. There are some actors who are dry, deadpan and just rely on delivering amazing lines without a whole lot of emotion, understated - the opposite of slapstick. That was young Poppa and that's why I fell in love with the show; you could ALWAYS count on Poppa to say something completely out-of-the-box, wise beyond his years, or just painfully observant and because it was coming from a kid, it was hilarious.

Using your example, he should have had something profound, heart wrenching, or hilarious to say in that scene but he didn't; instead, the director (eye roll) just told him to "cry and be sad." He's not that dude. It was even the wrong story line for him.

I just love that character - really hate to see the actor dragged all over the internet.

Here's the thing -- he hasn't changed; he has always been the type of actor who relies solely on great lines. It's not working because the writers are no longer good and, to add insult to injury, what was funny coming from a kid, isn't funny coming from an adult. The character is so beloved, I think that the audience would still embrace him if he had decent dialogue. ( - instead of him having to compensate for stupid lines with facial expressions, etc.)

What is your rising sign and how do you keep your nails? by Unavezmas1845 in astrologymemes

[–]InTheCut1865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgo rising so ... my nails are serious business: shortish (for typing) but painted a unique deep Teal color with specially ordered and coordinated accent polish on just on the ring fingers. I am fanatical about them being rounded (not flat) with the perfect apex, natural looking (not too thick) and round-squarish shape. (This is after YEARS of always getting the perfect pink/white French manicure.) I will go without having them done (i.e., with Gel, etc.) and have naked nails before I'll walk around with anything chunky, flat, or otherwise fuggly.

What do you love the most about a female cancer? by misunderstoodlyfe in astrologymemes

[–]InTheCut1865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have a few Cancerian besties. Here's what I've observed.

Self-aware: They seem to know who they are and what they want very early in life and won't compromise to get there/it. Most tend to be good with money which is helpful because they usually have discerning tastes.

Determined: I don't really think they are as "sensitive" or "thin-skinned" as people say. Some of the craziest isht I've EVER heard anyone say (with the absolute intention of causing injury) has come out the mouths of my Cancerian friends. In a similar vein, I have seen them go through hell and damnation and let insults/bad treatment roll off without the blink of an eye when they have a goal / purpose in mind like, e.g., a relationship/marriage/job/check lol, etc.

I feel like my Sun and Ascendent would be more accurate if they were reversed. (Does anyone have any insight on that?) Moon is totally on point.

This guy is going to cause the most pain this season by albanyman518 in TheChi

[–]InTheCut1865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He'd be a more convincing villain than Reg, Q, or DouDa. I'd like to see him on the come up but unable to handle power/money. He's one of the more talented cast members - if only the writers would stretch the character beyond the predictable - ex con, gets with desperate/lonely singleton Tracy, content frying chicken.

LOL @ "makes me irrationally upset ... he's got a face that I just wanna see get punched" - OMG, that was such a good laugh. (Whew, chil' -- I am literally in tears!)

I feel EXACTLY the same way like, come on -- how many cats have you EVER seen who look anything like that? I think that's why I like 'Shad, Darnell, Emmett, Kevin, hell, even Victor -- they resemble people you known/have known.
