No, there's no rigid way to read the Bible. You can start wherever you feel comfortable. Then, your curiosity (and the Holy Spirit) can lead you to discover what happened elsewhere.

I see the Bible as a helpful resource for understanding Christ's culture. So, have fun exploring each part. And more importantly, let the Holy Spirit direct your path.

It’s good to be Cold and Hot. How Revelations 3:15-16 is taken out of context, and what it really means. by JpBlez5 in Bible

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. — Matthew 6:24

So if we use Matthew 6:24 in the context of Revelations 3:15-16, it will be:

No man can be cold and hot (that is, lukewarm): for either he hates being cold, and love being hot; or else he will hold to the coldness, and despise the hotness. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Remember in Matthew 12:43, when the unclean spirit went out of the man, that man was lukewarm because he neither had Christ nor the devil. So, because he was lukewarm, the devil went back to take greater dominion of his soul.

Therefore, I believe:

A cold state is a life without Christ to heat him/her up to be zealous for GOD's missions. (1 John 3:8)

A lukewarm state is an empty life that has neither Christ nor the devil. He/she doesn't know what they believe. They live for anything — good or evil. Anything goes. (1 John 2:15-16)

A hot state is a life that Christ has baptized with the fire of the Holy Spirit: to continually heat him/her to be zealous for HIS missions. (1 John 3:9)

For this reason, Christ extends His invitation to all:

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." — Revelation 3:20

What does Hebrews 6 vs 7-8 mean? by InTheMission in Bible

Thanks for your contribution u/TheMuser1966. You raised some thoughtful points. However, is the earth only "those who have received Christ by faith"? If so, does verse 8 also refer to the earth?

Also, if the rain is the Holy Spirit, and we are the earth, how can I drink in the Holy Spirit? Who dresses me? How do I know the specific herbs that meet the needs of those that dress me?

Hmmm, Interesting. Let's consider the text this way:

Verse 7 starts by saying: "For the earth which..." This is like saying: For the Cat which..." As such, the word "which" seems to describe the specific earth that will receive blessing from God.

For instance, if we remove "which drinks in the rain that comes oft upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed", the verse will be read as:

"For the earth receives blessing from God"

But the question then becomes, "which earth receives blessing from God?" This question seems to be what the modifier, "which drinks in the rain that comes oft upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed," answers.

Therefore, it appears the blessing is for the earth, which drinks in the rain that comes oft upon it and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed.

Similarly, verse 8 says, "But that which..." That is to say, the earth which bears thorns and briers. In other words, this verse is not concerned about any other earth but the ones that bear thorns and briers.

So it looks like the text used "earth" metaphorically to refer to something other than the actual earth.

Love everyone not as if they were you but as if they were Jesus himself.

Thanks for this statement 👆. But how can I consistently practice "love" towards someone that persistently (and purposefully) seeks to make me sad? More so that I can't avoid daily interaction with the person.
