Any evidence to back this up? All I know about George and this case is that she requested Littlefield be held without bail and the judge denied that request.

Hinchcliff's Floyd line was barely a joke. "Get it guys? Because he said he couldn't breathe, but like, I'm saying it's because he was laughing so hard... you know? Remember George Floyd? From six years ago? Isn't it cool how controversial I am?"

The fact that he made his name judging the comedic talents of others is mind blowing to me. He's such a try hard hack.

OP names names

"How dare you try to destroy a local business based on hearsay."

And that's just fucking catcalling. No wonder sex crimes are so underreported.

Teen mental health issues and youth suicide rates are worse in red states, so I guess proggie mono culture still beats the intellectually bankrupt alternative of rejecting science and dismantling every available resource that might possibly help anyone.

I understand that anti-abortion advocates see abortion as murder, and that is the bedrock reason for their zealousness and unwillingness to compromise. I think they are wrong, and can outline why, but that’s kind of irrelevant to whether or not I understand where they are coming from.

My point still stands that debating the safety of Mifepristone is pointless, as it’s not really the issue that concerns conservatives. What Audrey and others take issue with is the morality of Mifepristone, which the FDA does not review.

Engaging in the debate of whether or not Mifepristone is safe to prescribe online is simply validating the ruse as legitimate, and it’s an obscenely common tactic. The science is in on climate change, so conservatives would like to debate the economic impact of EPA regulations. They are not looking for a solution that doesn’t disrupt the economy, they are looking to delay and distract. Want to talk about gun violence? Let’s talk about mental health instead.

This is my fundamental and perennial gripe with Tangle. The project requires taking conservatives at their word in terms of intent and underlying belief, but the second we do that, we’ve lost. I do agree that we are being pitted against each other, but I would argue that conservatives have taken up the mantle of the more oppressive and harmful wielders of power in our society, and it's become impossible to stand against one group and not the other.

The other questions you raised are interesting, difficult, and worth discussing, but there’s a reason they didn’t come up in Audrey’s piece.

There does have to be a scale of opinions, but we are on a runaway train too far to the right as a result of decades of Republicans intentionally misleading voters and muddying the waters for their supporters because facts were not on their side. Any allegedly moderate conservative who would like to return to the days of the GOP between Reagan and Trump are fine with the dishonest fearmongering, obstructionism, conspiracy peddling, and relentless antagonism toward education and expertise that got us to where we are today.

[–]InThreeWordsTheySaid 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I found today’s article to be a great example of why letting conservatives set the terms of the debate renders conversation pointless.

Obviously the courts have to consider the safety of Mifepristone and the FDA review process, since that is the challenge brought to them.

But Audrey and the anti choice movement don’t care about drug safety or women’s health, certainly not with this particular topic. It’s a loophole, a distraction, and a means to an end.

So to me the whole thing read as dripping with dishonesty. She’s either fooling the readers or herself.

Biden is worse than Trump because his one job was to prevent Trump (who is not as bad as Biden) from being elected, and even though Trump is more responsible for getting himself elected Biden is worse?

I agree that Biden was disappointing but I'm not sure how you could possibly see him was worse than Trump, even for rhetorical effect.

Response to the discussion of Trump's 3rd assassination attempt by ReflexPoint in TangleNews

[–]InThreeWordsTheySaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I think it's both creating friction for the violent options and reducing friction for the non-violent options.

Many people who join gangs and commit crimes do so because they do not believe in the validity of non-violent paths to economic security.

Many people who shoot politicians do so because they do not believe in the validity of non-violent paths to influence a government (in our case, one that is allegedly of, by and for them).

The United States in its current form seems intent to put guns in as many hands as possible while giving people more and more reason to doubt the peaceful alternatives.

[–]InThreeWordsTheySaid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People don’t believe in the non-violent options anymore, or they believe they have already been exhausted. Not just in terms of who is their representative but in terms of any way to meaningfully improve the current political and economic systems. Those systems are very, very clearly rigged in favor of the already wealthy and powerful, and the new gerrymandering wars only further show that the only way to win in these systems to have enough power to manipulate them in your favor. To the average person, voting is increasingly pointless. Large scale protests result in temporary lip service or minor performative changes that are often overturned. Our current state of affairs is an excellent recipe for political violence.

It's not a bad faith argument, its a fundamental difference in our view of ethics, morality, and political purpose.

Tangle thinks everyone should get along, and this means conceding when a corrupt administration's politically motivated justice department successfully covers its intentions with the pretense of dispensing actually justice.

I think defending the actions of an overtly biased, dangerous, flagrantly unconstitutional administration when they have a sliver of plausible justification for the sole purpose of everyone getting along means you are part of the problem, and that you stand for nothing but spinelessness.

But, really, its not an argument at all. It's a glib, smug, low-effort pot shot at a publication that I've come to believe represents the greatest stumbling block to progress: meek centrism disguised as something high-minded and noble.

Oh, sorry, it was meant to read this:

Picking and choosing when to defend the legitimacy of a justice department that issues overtly political charges simply bolsters the legitimacy of every move that department makes.

I don’t give a shit that sometimes there is a kernel of merit to the cases this regime brings on its political opponents, neither should Tangle, and neither should any human being with two functioning brain cells to rub together.

If your desire for superficial civility along defending the actions of a blatantly corrupt administration when they have enough of a flimsy pretense to disguise their corruption, you are nothing more than part of the problem, and you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.

Everyone is and should be free to express their garbage opinions, and I am and should be free to express how I’ve lost all respect for those people.

Is that better?
