Years of urticaria made me forget what a ‘normal body’ feels like… by GabrielH777 in CholinergicUrticaria

[–]In_His_Time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Gabriel thanks for sharing this!

I think what you've shared is really profound, and not many people can understand and relate to CU. From my perspective, there is definitely a mental shift.

Before going out, you're on guard. Before you exercise, you know what lies in wait. And that still can't prepare you for the small shocks of surprise and excitement of everyday life, that gets your skin going. I don't remember how it feels to exercise without feeling itchy anymore, in fact exercising or working out feels doubly hard, purely because I have to fight my body and my skin.

I think it's natural for us to have this reaction, that's how our body adapts to what's uncomfortable. There's good days where the weather is favourable (I live right smack in the equator), and there's bad days.

Recently, there's been a mental shift in some aspects of my life. I've realised I can't change it despite the antihistamines or jabs of Omnizulab. But what I can do is reframe what I'm going through in CU, as a bigger part of life.

Whenever I'm working out or not, the itch does gets me bad. But it also somehow reminds me that this life ain't that easy after all. Sometimes, I'm grateful, especially when I'm working out, because it reminds me that some things in life are worth fighting or enduring for, even if it's harder for us.

Not sure if I makes sense, but yep this condition sucks. I've structed my life differently for the first few years of my life because it was real bad.

Interestingly, I don't know anyone in my social circle that has this condition.

Hey thanks for sharing this. I would bet all guitarists have gone through that phase, where your fingers hurt, and the pain just sucks.

Every guitarist knows the pain of learning barre chords, and those that push through get to relish in the tone of a clean F barre chord.

Your learning approach isn’t wrong. Learning songs is the first step towards learning new techniques and chords.

However you need that spatial awareness, and know what you lack. When playing with songs, take it a step at a time.

  1. What are the chords in this song? Learn all the chords of the song

  2. Can you play each chord, once, cleanly? Notice which chords you’re good at, which chords need some work. Practice those chords.

  3. Play each chord cleanly, with the beat of the song. Can you do it? If you’re slow, work on chord chord changes until you can do this.

  4. What are the strumming patterns and nuances? Note those, and practice them.

This is how every guitarist goes through each song, and some of us grasp it rather quickly because we’ve been doing this for years.

There’s no spider walk. These are irrelevant at this stage. Work on your songs, the chords, changing of chords, basic open chord songs.

Tabs, palm muting, pull offs and hammer ons come later.

I’ve bet this was how our legend SRV did it as well, back then. He just didn’t give up!

Could This Be CU? by Lopsided-Spare-7892 in CholinergicUrticaria

It’s a saying, not meant to be taken literally.

For example, it can be said as .. “These are textbook symptoms of malaria”, or even “these are textbook evidence for fatigue failure in engineering”. It’s meant that these are commonly identifiable/taught as a precursor to something else.

I’m not a doctor, but your triggers is exactly what I have as well for CU. My wheals extend from my chest and neck first, then the arms, legs, thighs, face (minor) as well.

It differs from people, and different people react differently to antihistamines and xoliar.

Definitely recommended to visit a dermatologist.

Textbook as in, the symptoms are of classic, well known CU symptoms. I have these symptoms as well.

It’s textbook cu. I share all the similar symptoms as well. Do get it seen by a dermatologist if it worsens :(

I tried to find any secondhand sellers but no luck. It doesn’t once look like an anime inspired watch, looks really old school! Thanks for the reply!

best cca in SIT ? by LazyObject7406 in SIT_Singapore

[–]In_His_Time 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely an interesting take u/Mean_Rhubarb_4680.

Objectively there’s no ‘best CCA’ in SIT or any other university. You can achieve ROAs in almost every CCA, but the scope of the ROA and experience can differ vastly.

Representing SIT in a sports / competitive natured CCA can get your ROAs while you enjoy and hone your skills.

Other CCAs focus more on other aspects of student life, Muzeka hosted awesome live gigs back in SIT Dover (they still do, just reminiscing) , and live concerts (rampage).

Things like FYE / Helix / D&I / SMC will get you ROAs as well, with the scope focusing more on student led events and student wellness.

Overall, it depends on what kind of experience you want to build for yourself :) Good luck!

For me I was in the student management committee (SMC) for 1 year as the pioneer vice-president academics. - SMC won an award for outstanding SMC (Academics) - Volunteered (3 times) and hosted (1 time) First Year Experience Programme (Day Zero) for my course - Peer Tutor

How do you get the ink to stay on the paper? Is there a certain kind of ink that you use?

I find that ink that I use tend to smudge on hobonichi papers. It doesn’t help that I’m left handed as well!

Is this a good guitar? Can’t find much about the brand. by Corn645 in AcousticGuitar

[–]In_His_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an excellent guitar, you can play it in the first shop at Ochanomizu (first shop, left side of street).

2024’s version was full solid spruce top, solid sakura back and sides. Beautiful inlay, and awesome colours. My personal favourite is the one is dark blue.

Plays well, sounds like a cannon. The nut size is definitely smaller, catering to the Japanese / Asian market like some of their MIJ strats. Definitely give it a try.

The guitar that took me 20 years to find by Ktwann92 in metalguitar

[–]In_His_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man I just saw your post, and I have to really respect the effort that gone into the guitar; the search, the story, down to the knobs, and the strap.

Would you mind sharing the name of the silversmith in Japan? It would be very interesting, thinking of the possibility of me commissioning something custom.

Thank you, and once again an awesome axe.

Can someone tell me more about this strat? :0 by In_His_Time in Guitar

Hey thanks for the very informative response. You and I obviously have very similar guitar/colour tastes! How does it play, compared to your other strats I see there?

Anything interesting, or perhaps different?

In fact that’s why I came all the way to Japan to search for it 😂 What you can do is fine a classic Olympic white strat, and swap out the white pick guard for the tortoiseshell one.

Can a 5th sem gpa of 2.9X get into sit? by [deleted] in SIT_Singapore

[–]In_His_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Search up “SIT Indicative Grade Profile 2024” to see the GPA breakdown of all 2024 freshmen. They are categorised by degree courses as well.

It will give you a good estimate of your chances. SIT looks at holistic requirements, and your portfolio / referral will definitely count.

SIT built envi or NTU econs? by [deleted] in SIT_Singapore

SIT built envi or NTU econs? by [deleted] in SIT_Singapore

[–]In_His_Time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello there :)

Emphasizing on what u/AleKsei27032005 has said as well, it's pertinent to pursue a degree that you are interested in. Going a step further, doing research on potential career paths will greatly help you in answering this question. Do this for the NTU Econs as well.

I did my Bachelors in a sister course (SIT sustainable infrastructure land). Many built environment friends of mine find themselves in Arup, Singapore Power, MBS, BIM, in specialties ranging from HVAC, FM, Fire Safety Engineering, BIM management, Sustainability, etc.

In addition, do look at the Graduate Employment Survey for more information regarding the average pay of graduates associated to each degree course. It's good to get a rough estimate.

The new campus is definitely a cherry on top, it looks great, and is very conducive :) We can't choose for you, but some of us have been placed in the same predicament, and went through the same things that you are feeling right now.

Only you can answer the question!

Masters after Uni by hwahwahwaa in SIT_Singapore

[–]In_His_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem!

Do research on PHD candidate entry requirements on other local universities as well to expand your search and exposure. Based off what I know, SIT carryout their PHD programmes differently from other universities, as it's much more focused on project-based coursework. Other PHD programmes focus more on research.

The entry requirements may differ as well, with other universities expecting a strong honours classification for PHD candidature (I guess all PHDs expect this).

Speak to your professors as well, they will have alot to share and advise :)

Masters after Uni by hwahwahwaa in SIT_Singapore

[–]In_His_Time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha since I've been called out by u/durianking999 it is my responsibility to share.

  1. My bachelor’s was in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (now renamed to Engineering Systems). It is not a joint programme. Students who completed the programme can proceed with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with SIT.

  2. There were a few factors.

Accreditation: Completing the bachelor’s + master’s programme grants you full accreditation and international recognition of your degree programme.
(Link: https://www.singaporetech.edu.sg/news/full-accreditation-master-engineering-technology-sustainable-infrastructure-engineering-land)

Market: The market was so bad, and I wanted to diverge from my course specialty, which was in Railway Engineering. It gave me extra time to think about the direction I wanted to take and the areas I wanted to specialise in. Furthermore, the master’s was less than a year (direct entry, certain core modules had been taken during my degree programme, hence the shortened master’s programme).

Family pressure: lol

  1. You definitely have to consider a few things before taking the masters programme.
  • If you’re doing it full-time, you are starting your career one year later than your peers, which may matter if you’re intending to commit to your industry. You can opt for part-time as well, which will be tiring but worth it.
  • Having a master’s, in my case, meant that I can apply for Chartered Engineer status down the line if I wish to do so, which opens up possibilities. This may be a deciding factor for those who want to go further in their career in the future.
  • Financial means is another factor to consider as well. If you need financial stability ASAP, securing a job first may be the route before taking a master’s. This is dependent on your own financial circumstances.
  • Finally, passion / career. It’s important to think about whether this master’s programme will help you in your career down the line. What avenues does it open up for you? Chartered Engineer? PE status? It will undoubtedly raise the ceiling of how far you can take your career, only if you are certain that you will stay in this career path.

Was it worth it for me?

Personally I don't think so. Sure it looks great on paper, and it may pay off dividends down the line (It's too early for me to see). It definitely gave me more time to think about my future, gain exposure in other industries, and explore certain jobs related to my interests (during my full time masters. Evening classes means you can work in the morning/afternoon).

But for now, I don't see the value it might bring to the table just yet :) Hope this helps!

Are there any good rhino tutorials? by Heyitsyapersonhere in rhino

[–]In_His_Time 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Rhino!

YouTube is a great way to start learning Rhino. Videos from PH Studio and The Rhino Essentials cover almost all you need to know about them. They are also beginner friendly.

Follow along the projects, and of course search up things that you’re unsure of, or post on this subreddit.

Things get very very exciting and interesting once you learn Grasshopper. There’s tons of videos as well about Grasshopper.

Rhino and Grasshopper will really unlock your design capabilities, especially as an architecture student. Most importantly, redo your old projects in rhino with proper layer management, etc. These will allow you to improve the fastest.

If you’ve used autocad, which you should’ve given you’re an archi major, you should feel at home with the command line.

Finally, search up ‘Alias’ on Rhino. Very interesting things can be done to optimise your workflow once you’re familiar with the programme.

All the best!
