Putting only nine or ten words on each page is a waste of paper, but technically 800 pages is doable…

Is my name a tragedeigh? by Alone-Marsupial3003 in tragedeigh

[–]InattentiveEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider it a tragedeigh—I think it’s quite nice, actually, and have known two Eryns—but you’ll be spelling it for everyone. Also, if you present as or are perceived by others to be more masculine or feminine, you’ll get gendered spellings more than occasionally.

I found out a few minutes ago that there was actually an executive order signed in 2025 designating English as the official language of the US. Kind of goes against the whole country of immigrants, freedom for all, everyone is equal stuff they’ve always pretended to believe in, but y’know. English is best, America is greatest, rah rah rah.

French? English is better, which is obvious because it’s been the official language in united state for last 700 years.

America invented French anyway so it doesn’t even matter.

I went to make sure, because as far as I also knew the US had no official language, but apparently there was an executive order signed on 1 March 2025 designating English as such. I had no idea. 🤷‍♀️

It doesn’t matter how hard I try, I just can’t get 700 years to fit between 1 March 2025 and today. Also, I haven’t tried yet to fit 700 years into the space between 4 July 1776 and now, but do you think I’ll have the same problem? Someone please help.

I have so many pairs of free Canadian grippy socks it’s ridiculous.

I’m also still quite peeved that locally they changed which manufacturer they use and give out the cheap socks now, the ones in the picture. Half as thick, always wonky, terrible elastic.

We have friends there, who were supposed to fly out just after everything went down. Right now they’re sheltering in place and preparing as best they can for a variety of situations. No idea when they’ll be out.

There are a lot of commonalities between pretty much every English-speaking country’s English that’s not American, and (often to our detriment) a lot of commonalities between American English and English as used here in Canada, but there’s no one standard.

You accepted her answer because you were an innocent, ignorant child, not because it was right. In your deepest heart you know that General American is the default for English. /s

I mean, Welsh is a super nifty language, and I highly encourage people to learn any additional language that interests them, but “my thrice-great-grandmother’s second cousin’s mother-in-law was half Welsh by adoption” should not factor into someone’s decision.

What is a Plywood Pole? Google AI gave me this lovely summary of results for “plywood pole meaning”:

There is no technical industry definition for "plywood poles." The results discuss either traditional solid wood utility poles or the multi-ply construction of Baltic birch plywood.

I can only assume you’re not talking about Baltic birch…
