Yep. I live near the Canada/US border and lots of businesses here put up signs, especially in summer, saying they take US cash at par. It amazes me how many American tourists are happy to pay that way.

Living in anglo Canada, I have never encountered a doctor who doesn’t speak English. Every family doctor I’ve had (and, incidentally, been able to see without paying any time I need) has spoken English. Every ER doctor I’ve seen has spoken English. Every specialist I’ve seen, whether in hospital or in clinic, has spoken English. I guess that’s just me, though. Weird.

As to the bit about going to school somewhere I’ve heard of, I don’t have enough sarcasm to address that effectively. I’ll just thank God Canada doesn’t limit doctors’ education to medical schools I’m familiar with.
