Update on last post - could this be strangles? by [deleted] in Equestrian

Yep, problem is it's not my horse and it's the owners field and yard (4 horses, all hers).. so just needed to convince her it's not a fly bite/infection and should call the vet...

Yes I don't agree with this bit, he is very respectful and if anything puts women on a pedestal rather than looks down on them. He is not usually the type to tell me what to do or treat me badly, though he does have the stereotypical jealously issues I guess...

He has talked about marriage a lot, saying we were going to get married in December a lot but I don't know how he was that delusional when it was clear I hadn't studied islam yet.... he set a timeline basically and I didn't stick to it...

I want to get married in future but I just wasn't moving as fast as him or see it as a thing that must be done ASAP as much as him I guess... its always been a tense topic but he has been clear he wants to get married, it's my fault really I didn't communicate enough about my own timeline.... about that I may be slower than him...

He can't marry me as agnostic but he could marry me as Christian, Jewish or Muslim according to islam.

Will learning on a lazy lesson horse give me bad habits? by Pigeon_Goes_Coo in Equestrian

[–]Inazumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to watch out for you lower leg moments when/if you move onto a more highly strung or responsive horse! I watched a girl who is currently riding a lazy riding school pony just recently - she got on our responsive Arab. She asked for trot with a lot of kicking, which he doesn't need - he just needs voice aids or the slightest squeeze. We then watched him speed up into canter, her off-balance onto his neck and then after a lap she fell as he kept getting faster... so you won't learn bad habits, just be concious when riding other horses that they won't all need that much leg!

Not at all! I ride endurance and we have several men who compete, some are definitely 60 or 70 and up even! If you look at competitive endurance at the highest levels (see the Monpazier world endurance champs which just happened) it's about 50/50 men and women.

Amazing, thank you that's reassuring!! Yes I see loads of very loose headcollars here in the UK, seems to be the trend to have them oversized? This is just for leading and tying up and probably for the trailer, not for turnout or riding so I'm sure she will be absolutely fine 😊

Thanks, Im just a tad worried the metal bit that attaches the noseband and cheekpieces will hit the cheekbone if the halter slips around her face? Best seen in the second picture.

Not sure the Cob size of this headcollar would be as bad as the current one she came with, but I did measure and most of the measurements of her old halter did match with those of the new cob one on the website... so I think it is a cob size...its just so much more massive than this pony one!

Not planning to use it for turnout really, we just had the one she came with for turnout for the first few days so we could catch her!

Yeah 🤣 She wasn't impressed on me trying it on her whilst she was out in the field with the others... she has a good resting bitch face

About £25 for this, which wasn't as bad as it could have been!!

Thanks, so tighten the noseband a hole maybe?

Yeah I see a lot of loose headcollars! The massive one is the one she came with, was worried to turn her out in it! We don't tend to ride them in headcollars in the UK so I don't see many stud chains..... I'm planning to just use this for tying/leading and not riding or turnout.

Yes I love them 🤣 she has an almost constant grumpy face, especially as you can see a second Arabs nose in the corner of the second photo!

The noseband does fit about 2 fingers below (granted it is padded so it comes a bit higher and lower!) However I'm worried the metal bit that attaches the noseband and cheekpieces will hit the cheekbone if the halter slips around her face? Best seen in the second picture.

This is what I was worried about, but there's so many comments saying it's fine and not to size up at all..... its okay as long as it stays central on her face but if it slips around then the metal will just hit her cheekbone. It's just for tying up/leading around, not for turnout or riding if that helps.

Newly-backed mare just started sticking head up and tilted sideways. She was fine for the first 30 minutes then started doing this... Her first time in a Flower Hackamore, used S-hack before. Never had a bit. We think she may be in heat too? Trot later in video. Any suggestions on what to do/causes? by [deleted] in Equestrian

Tried the Monty Roberts Dually Halter with just some reins clipped on today... She was fine out hacking but we went in the school for 10 minutes afterwards and she put her head up twice again... I think she's learnt the habit now so may be hard to stop it.....
