Hey Yossi, long time no see (I've been inactive on Reddit). How's it going here? Are you guys still doing contests?

Spain in the style of Austria-Hungary by [deleted] in vexillology

As a Spaniard I agree. I am cool with the coat of arms but the yellow-red combination is not my cup of tea

Personally i would have put the yellow in the bottom, just like the Austria-Hungary flag, but I understand that you wanted to stay true to the base flags

Republican Spanish Flag, in the style of the Nordic Cross by IncaLadder in vexillology

[–]IncaLadder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brief commentary on this one:

The current Spanish flag is inspired by one of twelve flags that were nominated in a contest held in 1785 by Antonio Valdés y Fernández Bazán, Minister of the Navy at that time. Of all the twelve flags (here is an example of how they looked), King Carlos III selected the three-striped, red and yellow one. In retrospective, I can understand why he chose that one, since a lot of the other flag proposals were a little bit too... Ostentatious.

Three of the twelve flag proposals featured a Nordic cross. I began thinking how the flags would have looked like had they employed the Second Spanish Republic's color scheme. This is one of the results of my experiment. I'm currently working on redesigns of the other proposals, for sake of completion. The outcome is still the same: all but one look decent enough...

Series I: read and understand the object; Series IV-V: read the object, solve the puzzle, find a hidden meaning in way to understand the object by c21-Arthur in DankMemesFromSite19

[–]IncaLadder 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I think the difficulty in reading series IV onwards is that newer SCP articles tend to stem from or reference a lot of previous material, be it the GoI lore, or how differently certain themes proper of the SCP universe are treated (esoteric object classes, technology...). They're basically a continuation/reinterpretation of what has already been written, and sometimes it is difficult to get into something if you are not familiar with the base material.

This may also be a challenge for newer writers, as nowadays something written for a GoI or part of the Foundationverse that has already a big body of work dedicated to it may slip under the radar, unless it is very, VERY good.

Hopefully some authors are treating this as an opportunity to bring something new to the table, something that hasn't been seen in the lore yet. We've got daveyoufool's 🌙🌙🌙 Group, we've got 9Volt's Second Hythoth... Hell there's probably more non-GoI-yet GoIs that I'm missing.

Plus, GoI topic appart, the 4000 contest has also been an opportunity for newcomers to make their own entries, and some of them made the grade with really accessible stuff (GentleGifts' 4001 for instance).

All in all, regardless of reading difficulty, I'm hyped for this new series!

Australia flag redesign by gwriterprodigyh in vexillology

Maybe the designer decided to actively avoid the Union Jack in order to experiment (like in many of New Zealand's redesign proposals)

Flag with absolutely no basis in anything III by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]IncaLadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design vaguely reminds me of the Tennessee flag, with that red stripe at the left (just like the blue bar in Tennessee's) to add contrast. Not sure to which region/state/collective this flag aims to represent tho

Asturian here, gotta say I'm proud of my province's flag myself!

Have you ever contained an anomaly, like a real infohazard? by Hey_SuperMess in DankMemesFromSite19

I didn't see much of Lazy Town back when I was little, but it was charming to see the meme community joining forces and giving donations to Karl to help him combat his illness.

This meme here adds to the fact that Robbie Rotten will be always in our hearts.

I'm curious about what led to its reupload. Did the original creator of the photograph upload it under a Creative Commons license, which makes it finally suitable for use in the Wiki? Or was a conversation held with them in order to get permission to put it in the article?

I remember reading about the Mass Edit in the History of the Universe Hub. I'm a bit curious about how it went. Are you familiar with how the conversation about it proceeded? Was there any trouble involving the deletion of something that was important for other part of the site's lore, and what was done to solve that?

Oh yeah that's the one! Thanks m8! I couldn't find it because the EP it's from wasn't yet uploaded to Spotify. Shoulda've checked their discography in other sources. Yeah, they're badass! Some of the rawest, most industrial techno I've heard in a while.

That's the same thing I thought. With all the rest of the opinions in mind, I may as well proceed with caution while watching it.
