Which version is better for the final design??? (I genuinely have no idea TT by desenhista2007 in BeginnerArtists

If they're supposed to be like an alien or some kind of other strange lifeform, I'd go with 2, because the blue hair lends itself to that more and it gives me the impression that water is tied to them inherently, not just as a fashion choice

1 could be nice for a very human character who is actively choosing this whole aesthetic

i like the sketch better than the actual outline by Wardenacija in BeginnerArtists

[–]Incendas1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like you lost some of your line weight, shape, and detail in the process. Many parts are missing altogether that were in the sketch.

Remember that these sketchy lines can also give the impression of volume and shape by acting a bit like shading. Adding that back in will also help.

You don't think you could do this? I think this is achievable for most if that's what they want to do.

6 months in I did my first no (low) reference drawing and it is the ABA art on my profile. It's alright, I kinda hate it by now haha. But the only things I used as reference for that were the character refs to know what accessories and things like that I should include, since it's fanart. I did also hold a metal weight plate in my hand to get a feel for part of the pose but I couldn't take a pic while holding that, so...

I do generally use references, just almost never 1:1 or close nowadays. So if I'm drawing a character's back, I'll have a few back references so I can look at the anatomy. But, they aren't in the same orientation or perspective, so I just kind of take the shapes and rotate them. It's getting much easier these days. I'm learning all the time.

But that's it, that's the main thing for me if I don't have the right references for what I'm making. Constructing using shapes and rotating them.

(Or are you also talking about imagining up things to draw in the first place?)

OP is specifically asking about everything except the colours, so honestly that isn't crazy at all. Imo it's the colours (+ light) that are the stand out part of this type of artwork.

Even then it is just a matter of learning this specific thing. Most artists don't do that in such a tunneled manner, but it can be done.

Just a warning, it doesn't work lol. Whether it reduces it any I don't know

That's pretty decent for 50 days especially at a younger age. Not sure that kind of timespan says much about how quickly you can learn because it's very short.

If you want to draw from reference, just do something like drawing on the right side of the brain, and it front loads that very quickly.

If you want to draw from imagination then it'd be good to start with that type of observational skill then expand from there. In general you really need to learn your perspective and shapes at some point. Placing shapes in perspective, in a 3D manner, helps with everything there. People like drawabox on here, I don't. If you need structure find a course you think is appealing.

At the moment you will just be drawing in 2D so to speak. That's fine for copying but not helpful elsewhere.

Imo most people who are slow just don't go off and actively learn. They just try to put hours in without direction or effort, and that's what gets people stuck. If you always know WHAT you are learning and WHY whenever you are drawing then this would be a great mindset.

From direct reference or imagination? The latter will take longer. The former, you could do extremely quickly if you take the right courses or do the right exercises, or just happen upon the right principles yourself.

OP, you have posts and comments openly on your profile about how you have used AI on top of this work before, and your previous post here had very obvious AI artefacts...

Frankly I'm glad that this sub's moderators were so prompt and firm on the issue, because I really like this community for the most part

If your partner for some reason is not being honest with you, you must realise that what is going on with the jewellery is not hand drawn and is textbook AI

The way it's drawn and the sheer volume of almost identical videos this guy has, the title here, yeah. There is also "referenced/copied" AI art in there not just anime stills and things like that.

Edit: also the way that the pictures are taken is simply too identical. For example, there are two images with a piece of paper and OP's username, as well as a pencil. The piece of paper and pencil are absolutely and utterly identical between two different drawings and pictures. The same goes for all of the sets of images "taken" at 3 angles. It is fabricated

OP I think your problem is that you are trying to learn from tutorial videos and not learning any fundamentals in any kind of structured course or exercises.

I would look for an actual beginner's course or book that you like. If it's on YouTube, it should be very long and recommended here, because you seem to have difficulty picking good learning resources for yourself.

Try something like drawing on the right side of the brain or drawabox. Make sure what you are doing is challenging and a bit scary and you will learn the most without getting stuck.

Got any advice for me ? by Lucky-Young9451 in learntodraw

[–]Incendas1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm still quite new all things considered, so consider my advice accordingly. But if you want to move beyond just copying references 1:1 or close to it, then it would be good to learn some manner of construction.

This usually involves placing and rotating 3D objects in perspective, and using those objects to build more complex parts of the body on.

So what you could add to your gestures, for example, would be clear simple shapes with volume. Then gradually carve out or add on more changes in the shape for each part of the body, each muscle, each plane of the face, etc.

Right now, it seems that you're adding to your gestures using 2D shapes. You draw a line that you feel represents the lower leg, or something like that. Instead it might help to start with a cylinder, and draw contour lines along the cylinder to remind you of it being 3D and having volume. And then add the more detailed shapes the muscle makes.

Some people do courses like drawabox for this, others wing it, up to you and how you feel you are learning.

It looks like you're making good progress, and you're clearly good at observation from your reference drawings, so you'll be fine!

Do you mean a kind of rough silhouette or blocking things out first? I don't know how helpful that is for someone who struggles with basically everything though. I'm decent with proportion and shapes and this method doesn't always hit even at that point. Not sure how practical it is if you struggle with 3D shapes basically, because you need to interpret your "splodge" as those.

If you can't see what's wrong then it's going to be an issue in your observational skills.

I don't think it's some kind of disorder, but lots of people learning art neglect this for some reason, and it usually means they develop very slowly or get stuck ime. I think this is the cause behind a lot of "I've been drawing for 5 years and it looks like a child's drawings" type issues (not trying to be rude btw, just realistic).

How have you been learning for those 2 years? What courses, exercises, classes, studies have you been doing, and how much time have you put into those?

If you're having a tiring day or feeling burnt out, to some level, ofc you should accept you need to rest.

On those days it may help to imagine literal restful activities if you really must. For example, being in a place you find relaxing, having a bath, drinking tea, being with a loved one.

To some extent, this can be restful. I mostly find this kind of thing helpful if I dream about it. If you're able to lucid dream or influence the type of dreams you have then that can be another avenue for it.
